My Wrestling Trip
It seemed like 100th time I've wrestled in the PA/NJ, but for some reason I was very eager for the usual wrestling trip. This time, not only was I wrestling in a tournament, but I got invited to tour the #1 wrestling team in the country as well as one of the top academic prep communities in world. This school is one of the best, due to how well they bring in students and wrestlers. This includes North America go here, Nigerians, Russians, Koreans, Cambodians, and even some Middle Eastern Groups. This Preparatory school thrives in three sports, field hockey, rowing, and of course wrestling. So as you can probably see i was extremely excited, yet nervous of what to come. This is a big step in my life even if they didn't accept me. I just got …show more content…
I didn't go the whole day like my brother Colton did. I only had to do the last three out of a total eight classes. As soon as I got to the school, I met with the coach, and was asked some questions pertaining to wrestling, academics, as well as my own personal interests. He came out and told my parents that I did a wonderful job answering everything the way I should. I just sat in the chair thinking that this might be my future, and it was only the beginning of hopeful a historic run at being one of the most known wrestlers in the nation. Coach Green, the coach I met with, told my parents that I would be touring the school with one of their sophomore wrestlers. Me, being the way I am knew most of their kids in the lineup, and the one wrestler my dad and I had a conversation about, turned out to be my tour guide. Mr. Green, told me that I would be touring with Beau Bartlett, who is currently ranked second in the nation in the 125/130 weight class. With that being said, I was very eager to start the rest of the day, yet had some sort of anxiety to prove myself to the other students, and teachers. I was waiting, then after about 10 minutes, he arrived. I then was on my way to tour the school, and go class to class seeing what his prep high school campus was like. On our way to his language class, we stopped at this little metal plate in the ground. It had an oval shape, and was a dirty bronze. It had a giant “SEM” stamped in the middle, and around it was these words Verum, Pulchrum, Bonum” this is the school motto, it stands for, the true, the beautiful, and the good. After we were done talking about the school's motto, we scurried into the classroom in the language arts building. Yes, their is a building strictly dedicated to the art of language. I sat down in the classroom, seated next to Beau, I looked

However, this welcome was quickly followed up by his addressing what I did wrong. “I know it’s your first day, so you’re not in trouble, but for future reference you need to make sure that you are wearing your uniform correctly with your shirttail tucked in; and when you enter an officer’s office, you must salute and report in.” I was shocked! I had just walked in the door and already he was making sure that I did everything correctly, right down to the smallest details. Never in any other school that I had attended in the past had anyone seemed to care that much about what I did, and it was this kind of behavior from the rest of the faculty and many of my peers prompted me to raise my standards to that of a FUMA cadet. In such a short amount of time I had already formed close bonds with the faculty and my fellow cadets, and I didn’t want to let them down. So, I rose to meet those new standards that were set for me to the best of my ability. Fork Union Military Academy instills the core values of respect, integrity, faith, character, and discipline. Because of these core values and the support, I received from my parents and my school, I have become the man I am…

Over my four year athletic career I did my best to represent my school, town, friends and family with the highlest level of sportsmanship and pride. I played a big role in winning the district title in both golf and basketball my freshman year. I individually placed second at districts three years in a row, I broke the school basketball record for most three pointers in a season, game and a career and I hold the record for most homeruns in a softball season. Outside of the athletics I have contributed to the school academically and politically as well. Being the senior class president I have many responsibilities when it comes to raising money and providing the best high school experience for my fellow classmates. Last October, my fellow class officers and I had to make a decision on where our senior trip would take place. In past years this has been a one day trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park, but I was determined to do more for my classmates so I had suggested that we present an overnight trip to the school board. There has not been a overnight trip for a senior class at BHS since 1985.. My officers were very hesitant but I knew that we could make it happen. In January two officers and I went to make history at the school board meeting. We presented our case to the board and after 3 short weeks we gained their approval. We were all so excited, we knew that we had changed the path for not only our class but for many classes to…

My name is Mark, I am fourteen years old and I received my Junior Black Belt in November 2008. Since receiving my Black Belt there have been many changes in my life. In November 2009 my mom and I moved to Jobstown, New Jersey. This is about thirty minutes away from the Medford Amerikick studio. Before we moved I lived ten minutes away; near all the close family I grew up with since I was a baby. Since I moved to a new town I had to change school districts, I now attend eighth grade at Northern Burlington Middle School. The fact that I stayed committed to taking karate during this time shows my…

It was 2012, football had just ended and I’d never been so excited for wrestling season. I was coming off a season where I went 34-8 and was a state qualifier, getting second at both regional and sectionals. I had wrestled 75 pounds last year, but this year I was weighing 90 pounds and was gonna have to lose some weight to make 80. I had been elected captain at the end of the 2011-2012 season. I won the first couple matches of the season and going into the Olympia tournament I was 3-0 I beat a returning state qualifier in the quarter finals. In the semifinals I came out scared and got beat 12-8 I was devastated I had pinned that kid twice the year before. But I wrestled back and…

I had average grades but was an All-American wrestler on my high school team. In my weight class I made my way to regionals, states, and eventually won nationals and was ranked top ten in the state of Maryland. After winning I spoke to a reporter and spoke about the match, the preparation leading up to it, and my mentality as a wrestler. A man approached me after the interview and complimented me on my match but was more impressed with how I handled myself after. “You’re a great wrestler and speak very eloquently and with respect.” This man then asked me about my grades and family life. I told him that I didn’t have any parents and that my grades were decent. He told me that he was a scout for West Point in New York and handed me his card. He said goodbye and once again complimented my performance. Without much guidance or direction for what I wanted to do with my life, I called him up and spoke about West Point and all it entails. I decided this was the best option for me and I pursued it. A year later, I began school in West Point where I met Greg who took me under this…

In the Summer of 2017, I received a phone call that was full of excitement. Up to this point it was high school baseball season and I was playing baseball for Senior. Baseball is my favorite sport, so I dedicate a lot of time practicing and working out to get ready for the season. It was midway through the season when the big doubleheader with our crosstown rival Hempstead, approached. We ended up sweeping the mustangs which gave us the outright of the city championship. I went 4-6 at the plate, with four RBI's and my first career home run. The following weekend, my coach had told me that I had won TH Athlete of the Week and that I was going to be receiving a phone call. My phone finally started ringing and I quickly picked it. "Hello," I said…

Throughout the first semester I excelled in biology and algebra but, as predicted I lagged in AP Lang. My fellow classmates would receive 91%’s and 85%’s and I’d hide my 75%s. The AP Lang teacher, Dr. Mike Mikulics, was never afraid of being frank with any of his students and would call people stupid. I also fell into this category but I just brushed off his hostility. One day though, Dr. Mikulics went off topic and said to the class, “You knew I think the most stupid, idiotic, and brain dead people on campus are wrestlers, wait are any of you wrestlers?” I raised my hand. “You see ‘he’ proves my point.” A few weeks later I hear from several people “Damn! Mikulics really bagged on you. He said, ‘Let’s all start a charity to get enough money to buy Delan a new brain.’” These insults I couldn’t brush off.…

    My Fencing Paper

Fencing this year is so much more different than last year. We got a new coach this year and also got our old coach back. Their names were Coach Ike and Coach Angelo. I’ve known Coach Angelo a few years back when we had CFDC for fencing lessons. Coach Ike seemed really friendly but at the same time strict. Most of us weren’t that comfortable with him at first because we were scared. After he had this really long and inspiring talk with us during the first day, that’s when real fencing training happened. We were really taught how to have the proper footwork, posture, lunges and etc. I won’t lie and say that it was really tiring but I won’t lie as well when I say that it felt really good. Learning all those things made me a better fencer and a better student. After all those training every Friday, we became more comfortable with both coaches. Coach Ike is really fun and really good at training us younger kids. He might look kind of not fit but he can move so swift and smoothly you wouldn’t really believe it. He wasn’t really like our previous coach, Coach Brian. Coach Brian doesn’t train us that hard because he knows that we might get pissed or something but we would never do that. He was really fun as well. We had those laughing moments that I would never forget because he was my very first coach. I know that throughout this year I will have that with both Coach Ike and Coach Angelo. Coach Angelo on the other hand is very entertaining. He sings aloud during class, during bouts, tournaments or just because he feels like it. He also keeps me hyper in class. He always makes everyone laugh which makes it easier for everyone to concentrate while having fun at the same time. He also has very good tips for us every time were about to go to a bout or when were training. He never changed before which is a really good thing because that’s what makes him different from all the other coaches out there. He has this great connection with…

My head ached with pain. The pain beats in a rhythm like a heart beat. I was so nervous. I went downstairs to the kitchen, finding a plate of food and no one was there. There was a note on the table that said "Good luck on your game! From Alize and Tiffany". I smiled. I ate my food and went to the gym. After I went to the gym, I started heading toward the Coca-Cola James Coliseum. I could see fans waving at me while I was driving towards the V.I.P. parking area. Fans were screaming of joy to see me. "Good Luck Champ!" A fan said. I walked in the stadium after changing into my boxing clothes. The crowd screaming. Cameras flashing light so bright. And Alexander on the other side. "Welcome to Coca-Cola James Stadium!" The announcer yelled. "Today, we got two champions fighting against each other. James against Alexander!" The crowd screamed louder than a lions roar. I felt nervous. This was the final moment. I can finally beat my school…

The plane was taking off. Gravity pulled me lean on the back of the seat. Seeing the trees, roads, cars and buildings became more and more blurry in my sight, I felt my brain was blank. "Hey, I'm really going to leave tomorrow…" I called my best friend the night before I left. "Don't forget to swim across the Pacific Ocean to visit me." She said after the long silence. Yes, for me at that time, America was truly just Hollywood and Disneyland on the other side of the Pacific Ocean. But soon enough, I would find out the real America by myself.…
