While studying abroad, I believe that this skill I gained from my internship will allow me accommodate and adapt easily to the new culture. This new skill will also allow me to communicate and connect with other students while abroad by expressing an interest in who they are. I will also be able to grow a connection with my peers by showing them a bit of my culture and help them learn a new way of life. I also believe that this characteristic, as it played out in my internship, will play out in my time abroad. It will inspire me to bring myself away my comfort zone and indulge in the new space and life I …show more content…

I can remember when I did my undergrad internship at a rehabilitation center; the Physical Therapist explained to me that if a person has ruptured their Achilles tendon, calf raises were one the best exercises. This exercise was potentially one of the best due to it strengthening the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. He also explained that many runners should focus on strengthening exercises, simply because of the wear and tear running they are more susceptible to this type of injury.…

Some of the 21st Century Skills that this internship applied are Civic Literacy and Engagement, Communication Skills, Global Awareness, Interpersonal Skills, Self-Directional Skills, and Thinking and Problem Solving. During this internship I learned more about the deaf community in education and how the government handles it. Communication Skills and Global Awareness also played an important factor because obviously I have to communicate with the kids and in this experience I learned how to interact with these students and teachers. I also learned how the learning environment is like for the interpreters and students and was able to apply it to my internship and hopefully to my Senior Project. Interpersonal Skills is something that I had a difficult time with the interpreters.…

It is always great to experience other diversities and their costumes. This can most certainly give me the chance to be very open minded to the whole world. I understand that languages can be very difficult to learn, however, that is exactly what I want. I want to know how my mother felt when she moved to the United States without having any knowledge of the language, how much she had to struggle, and what she did to seek for help. I hope to come back home and tells others about my experiences while study abroad. I intend to impact other students to also consider study abroad as one of their life options while attending their school careers. With my experiences in study abroad, I’m hoping that I will open doors for students whom would want to do this, and that there are many resources to help you reach this dream like this one. Coming from very low income parents also will target a certain group of students who have always desire to take courses in other countries, and I hope to impact them as…

Being a child in a military family made it so that I have never been afraid of traveling, or being immersed into new cultures. My unique experience of living in 6 different states has made me appreciate and crave to gain more knowledge about cultures. Although I have not had the financial means to gain any international cultural experiences first hand, I have continuously consumed knowledge about new places through documentaries, research, and my education at Texas A&M. Studying human geography has been so rewarding in that it is my job, as a student, to learn as much as I can about different cultures around the world. I was not lucky enough to be a part of a freshman immersion program my first year of college, but it is never too late to start…

As for skills that I learned, I would have to say the most important was socialization. I’m the type of person who is terrified of asking for help, I rather just pretend that I understand something then ask others for help in the fear of look ignorant to them. This was something that I could not do at the pharmacy it was better to ask questions then for them to scan the medication bottles and here that terrible wrong alarm sound go off. Commutation is a very important aspect in the world and this internship has brought me to realization of this and it’s a skill I will use for the rest of my life. The function of networking was another important skill I learned. The majority of jobs are received by…

    My Experience from India

    • 345 Words

The one foreign country I have been to is India, and it has changed the person I am today very drastically. The last time I visited India was April 2011, and that is when I realized most of the things I did, and it helped me change my outlook on a lot of things. For example, it gave me a completely different perspective on poverty, which is something they have a lot of in India. Living in Canada, I have not seen much of poverty, but after seeing the substantial number of people going through it in India, it made me realize how fortunate we are to be living in a country where it isn’t as big of an issue. Another immense issue in India is the absurd amount of pollution, which is still a growing problem. It is because of the rapidly growing population, which is putting a strain on the environment, infrastructure, and the country’s natural resources. Another unbelievable issue in India is the unemployment, as India is the second largest in population; it also has a larger number of unemployed people. The leading reason for unemployment is again, the increasing number in the population. Also many companies make workers, work for long hours or even overtime instead of hiring new employees. This way they try to save money. The very valuable lesson I learned from all this is, that I am extremely fortunate to be able to live in such an amazing country where we do not have to face these massive issues in our community, environment, or society. It really opened my eyes, to realize to never take anything for granted because I would much rather be living in Canada than anywhere else in the world, and I am very thankful for it. I also know that I wouldn’t have ever been able to realize any of these things unless I would have visited India for myself. That is what I gained through traveling to India, and this is how it changed me as a…
