The house was built and one by one houses in that area were replaced with larger nicer houses, much as Kevin had explained to the family moving in. The demands on houses in that area slowly got higher but Kevin and Lena had not fully paid mortgage, so they were unable to sell. Eventually the demand got so high that just one month of being late on their mortgage was enough for the landlord to evict them and suddenly they were out a house. Kevin reflected on this time by saying that the landlord just showed up one morning and said he needed the mortgage now. After Kevin explained that that was impossible, the landlord gave them 30 days to leave. The family, discouraged, then moved to Englewood, where they found affordable houses, but not houses to their liking. Kevin claimed it was a troubled area and a “tough place to grow up”, when asked to elaborate he said “drugs are trouble, violence is trouble.” He walked to his old house as he said this but when he arrived he stopped in his tracks to realise that his his old house had been knocked down and had been replaced with a condo (above). In this book, the main character had to go through a lot of internal and external conflicts throughout the book. Some of the internal conflicts the main character, Alex, had to face include keeping his mental strength that allowed him and his two sisters to stay alive. Some external conflicts include how Alex had to deal with his two sisters and make them do what he says since he was the next in charge of the family after their parents are gone and his older brother, Carlos, in the marines. I personally dont like the ending of the book. Why does Alex sister, Brianna, have to die? My favorite character in this book is Kevin. Even though Kevin died at a part in this book, he was a thoughtful person for Alex. Kevin always gave Alex food that he didnt need and helped him get one more bag of food at the food line every morning. After reading this book, I learned that making more friends will make a lot of difference once you are stuck in a difficult situation. I will recommend this book to any people that are interested in catastrophic situation.…

I think that the age difference between Kip and his parents greatly affected the outcome of Kip and his behavior. Since his parents were around 14 and 15 a lot has changed and I don't think that they could keep up with how fast Kip was growing up and how he was acting. When his sister still lived at home, I think she acted very much as an equalizer. When Kip would do something wrong, his sister would be the one to talk to the parents and tell them to look at some of the things that their students have done, and it helped them to realize that what Kip did really wasn't that bad. When she moved away must have been very difficult on Kip because he was all alone now with no one to give him a hand. I think that his parents started to really buckle down, and Kip was able to feel the walls kind of closing in on him as his privileges narrowed down. His parents then began to push him into activities that they enjoyed doing, in hopes that Kip would find an interest besides guns and explosives. But that was unsuccessful. Than, when Kip started to show interest in karate, his parents are not very encouraging. I think that this was also another thing caused by the age difference. His parents didn't see the need for Kip to be joining karate, it was violent as well. He should be doing something like tennis...what they liked.…

The main character had a terrible relationship with his father. They didn’t see eye to eye at all. The father just took him to baseball games and left him there with an usher that he paid to watch him. The absence of a father figure was significant to his childhood. When he grew up he tried to be anything but that memory. He was involved in his children’s lives. This would be a family theme where the parent separates themselves from the child, so they could attend to their own matters in life. The next theme can be seen in the family that has the young girl being feed information like a sponge ruining her childhood so she could get ahead intellectually. The parents did not see her as a child but as some sort of machine. It is not the proper way to raise a child. She was socially awkward and didn’t have the social skills to socialize with the other children at Kevin’s birthday party. This theme is where the parents treat the child as an object rather than a living being. The next one is in the single mom with the two kids. She struggles to support for her family and her children disrespect her all the time. The son was so distant from her and left all the time, while the daughter was in love with a troubled boy. The son was having problems with himself since she went through puberty and he didn’t have a father figure to explain all the changes in his body and while he was feeling certain things. Todd became that father figure when he married the boy’s sister and got to explain what was happening through experience. This helped out the single mother trying to support her two children. The youngest son and brother of Gil the main character displayed the same type of parenting as the grandfather did with Gil, abandoning his child and dumping him with whoever would take care of him.…

Millat runs in many crowds and is a leader in all of them: the Raggastani crowd, the Cockney crowd, the black crowd, and the Asian crowd. Even with being a part of so much, he still felt out of place because"underneath it all, there remained an ever present anger and hurt, the feeling of belonging nowhere that comes to people who belong everywhere"(Smith, 178). Millat wanted to desperately fill that pit of anger and hurt and joining the radical group KEVIN is where he felt he belonged. In KEVIN, Millat had to give up a lot of his adopted new habits like smoking, drinking and sex and obey some strict rules. That was hard for Millat but he did it because…

His theory explains that as soon as an individual is born there are developmental stages that the individual deals with until death. In the first stage trust versus mistrust, children fully depend on their caretaker. There would be a lot of frustration if the proper care and love is not provided. The outcome of this stage defines whether or not the person can trust the world. Erikson’s theory includes more stages that explore autonomy, initiative, industry, identity, generativity, and integrity. However, only the six stage (intimacy vs isolation) correctly explains schizoid personality…

We see this when Tommy goes through conflicts with his family and his community. His family didn’t really listen to his problem. He feels depressed, disappointed, and confused on what to do. Lewis Gardner emphasized this during the first part of the story when Tommy tried to tell his parents they started to talk about a different topic. The community also ignored him. When he told his doctor about his problem the doctor seemed as if he didn’t care about him at all.
