Christian Family
Movie Review The main character had a terrible relationship with his father. They didn’t see eye to eye at all. The father just took him to baseball games and left him there with an usher that he paid to watch him. The absence of a father figure was significant to his childhood. When he grew up he tried to be anything but that memory. He was involved in his children’s lives. This would be a family theme where the parent separates themselves from the child, so they could attend to their own matters in life. The next theme can be seen in the family that has the young girl being feed information like a sponge ruining her childhood so she could get ahead intellectually. The parents did not see her as a child but as some sort of machine. It is not the proper way to raise a child. She was socially awkward and didn’t have the social skills to socialize with the other children at Kevin’s birthday party. This theme is where the parents treat the child as an object rather than a living being. The next one is in the single mom with the two kids. She struggles to support for her family and her children disrespect her all the time. The son was so distant from her and left all the time, while the daughter was in love with a troubled boy. The son was having problems with himself since she went through puberty and he didn’t have a father figure to explain all the changes in his body and while he was feeling certain things. Todd became that father figure when he married the boy’s sister and got to explain what was happening through experience. This helped out the single mother trying to support her two children. The youngest son and brother of Gil the main character displayed the same type of parenting as the grandfather did with Gil, abandoning his child and dumping him with whoever would take care of him. The personal struggles were mostly between the grandfather and Gil with how he was a bad father to him and how it affected his

The theme of grief is the most important theme in the book. The author herself understands what this family experiences. In her book, Lucky, she tells the story of her own rape and near murder. This kind of experience can be so devastating that the victim must grieve what happened to her and how she has changed. We see her own experience in Susie, who not only must follow her family’s progress through grief, but also her own progress. It is a kind of primer or textbook for us all. We, too, could someday face what the author and her characters have endured. The theme also allows the reader to understand these characters better,…

Theme is something that can seem different to everyone. It is the meaning of a story or any piece of writing, but we all see meanings differently. There are a seemingly infinite number of themes in just one story and it is hard to choose the meaning that means most to you. In “Runaway” there are multiple themes to choose from and make deductions about. These themes range from how a person associates with themselves and with others, to how does a person’s sexuality change their view of the world? Or even, does a person’s sexuality make them seem like the gender opposite of theirs or are they actually just different emotionally? Well for me the theme I would focus on is how a person’s personality is affected by their views of the people around them and how they incorporate the other people’s personalities into their own.…

Throughout this course we have discussed about making good and bad decisions in life. In grade 12 curriculum we have watched a movie called A Million Dollar baby cast by Clint Eastwood as an Frankie Dunn (coach), Hilary Swank as an Maggie Fitzgerald (female boxer) and Morgan Freeman Eddie "Scrap Iron"(gym keeper). In this movie Eastwood has shown in his movie a story about a struggling life of boxers and coach. In this movie an actor and director is playing a role as Frankie Dunn a boxing coach. Frankie has played his part very well in this movie by high training level of boxing and giving them skills that they are applicable for. Making every boxer in his gym a very strong fighter. One his most favourite boxer in his gym (hit pit) was that black guy Frankie taught him all the techniques from his experience, taught him how to win every single fight of his life. As the final Championship game was very close. The black boxer who used to fight for Frankie, betrayed him and start fighting for another manager. Though Frankie was very upset because he lost his most favourite and well trained boxer. Frankie past is very devastating as well, because Frankie himself is very aggressive and full of self steam men, Frankie has been cast aside from his relatives, colleagues and his daughter Katty.…

One example is when the children back Margot into a closet and lock her in. The children “caught her and bore her… back into a closet, where they slammed and locked the door.” (Bradbury pg. 3) Then ran back down the tunnel to the teacher smiling maliciously. This shows the theme by the way the children act towards Margot. They are so mean to her just because she believes in something that they don’t. Another example of the theme is after the children go outside for the first time in seven years and then they remember that Margot was still in the closet. The children suddenly realize that Margot was “still in the closet where we locked her” and stood as if “someone had driven them into the floor.” (Bradbury pg. 4) This shows the theme through the way Bradbury describes the children’s reaction when they realize that Margot had missed the sun because of them. They finally realized that they were wrong to treat her that way, and felt extremely guilty for being so disrespectful to her. The theme helps show the flaws in human nature by how the children treat Margot through the…

The Banksy documentary, “Exit through the Gift Shop”, is effective in its attempt to uncover the underappreciated world of street art in a different form. Not only does the film intrigue you with its informative approach to different styles of art, but it exposes many talented artists and their brilliant work. The film in its entirety was interesting, motivating, and comical. This is a documentary that I would recommend to any type of person.…

Dance can be used as a source of therapy where one can express their emotions whether it is positive or negative, through each movement. In the past and maybe still today, women in Tanzania were not allowed to speak about nor complain about the lack of support they get from their husband. Women in Tanzania use the movements of dance to portray how they are the actual providers in their family and to express how their husbands are useless to the necessities they need in their life.…

I choose to watch the movie “A few good men”. The story line goes as where Tom Cruise is asked to defend two marines who are charged with murder of a fellow officer. During the investigation it was found that the marines were ordered what they call a Code Red. A code red is where disciplinary measure is told to the marine when a member offends against his unit. This marine was beaten, gaged, bounded with tape by his fellow officers because in the squad’s eye he was not standing up to their needs. The two marines argue that they had a direct command from the higher authority to commit such act. Throughout the movie it came out that Colonel Jack Nicholson character had committed a crime and that this was unethical in the law and the United States Marines. The two marines Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Louden Downy bound, gagged and tortured William Santiago while he was sleeping him later died of bleeding in the lungs due to the assault. Demi Moore an advocate for counsel (Joanne Galloway) believes that the two were only following orders and did not mean to intend for Santiago to die. There are two ethical issues here that I see as far as the movie went. One being the murder was performed and the other is that the code red was ordered of Jessup as a cover up.…

Grant Taylor (Alex Kendrick) has been coaching the Shiloh Eagles for six years, and he has yet to realize his dream of a winning season. The themes are the result of the adversity the characters had to face. Leigh Anne made the decision to welcome Michael into her home on a rainy night, and that was the start to a beautiful relationship. The hardships faced along the way were payments for the blessings they would receive later on. Michael endured an unstable childhood which led him to having to overcome racism and relearning the meaning of family. In the end, his past only made him more confident. Until Michael became a part of her life, Leigh Anne took things for granted. From the help of Michael she learnt to appreciate what she had in her life. The film made me evaluate my own reasons for enduring hardship. I realized that I put myself in demanding situations for the high I receive later on. As humans we are bound to face adversity in our lives, but we endure the struggle in hopes to find our happy…
