Modern technology
Portfolio №1
Task 2
Opinion Essay Does modern technology make life more convenient?
It is clear that we are living in a developing century. It has never stopped advancing until to the present. If we look back at the history of human beings for the last 100 years, we make sure what amazing changes have happened. The discovery of modern technology brought about these changes. Beginning with the telegraph, and continuing on to and beyond mobile phones and computers, they have helped humans improve their conditions of living. In other words, it has solved so many problems and it is making our life much more convenient day-to-day.
It is obvious that everything has two sides, that is, advantages and disadvantages. Similarly, it is possible to say that modern technology includes both negative and positive effects. For instance: we can see the advantages of it in a teaching process. Nowadays it is getting more and more convenient to obtain knowledge even staying indoors. Moreover, broadband connections are widely available now. This makes online shopping much easier and they will be delivered to our front door. From my point of view, it could be helpful for the disabled. However, majority of people do not know how to use them properly. We could see it not only in the adults, but also in the elderly. Downloading useless information is a perfect example of this.
“Modern technology is changing the way our brains work. Of course, there are benefits from technology progress, but there are great dangers as well, and I believe that we can see some of them today. Our brains are under the influence of an overextending world of new technology: multichannel televisions, video games, MP3 players, the internet, wireless networks, Bluetooth links – the list goes on and on. ”[1] concludes researcher of Oxford University Susan Greenfield. Indeed, I can say without any hesitation that this statement cannot be refused. I completely go along with it.

In his online article, Nicholas Carr discusses technology and its effect on the human brain. He conducted in depth research on the brain and the way it responds to the use of technology. Carr makes the argument that despite its benefits, technology has an ultimately negative effect on the brain. He reports that through several studies, researchers have found that although the use of technology increases brain function, it also rewires the mind in a negative way. Professor Gary Small supports this fact saying “’more brain activity is not necessarily better brain activity’” (Paragraph 4). Carr uses the internet as a prime example of today’s common technology use and argues that, because of the constant shifts that are made when using the World Wide Web; the brain is being rewired and restructured to limit the amount of information that is taken in, causing a lack of critical thinking skills. His argument is firmly supported with a seemingly endless amount of factual information, professional opinions, research, and metaphorical devices. This constant use of logos is what makes Carr’s argument effective.…

Technology has made modern society possible. It has increased the human life span and allowed a healthier life. It has added to leisure time and it has reduced long hours of work. Technology can allow the world to feed itself. It has reduced the effects or natural catastrophes such as famine and floods. The world is now is now a smaller place where people can readily communicate with each other, where teachers can teach their students, where writers can record their songs, where teenagers can listen to their music, and where we can travel rapidly anywhere in the world. Technology has raised the standard of living at least in the developed nations, to a point unimaginable only a century ago. Although technology has changed the ways we live today it…

Technology in present time has become so advanced it has affected the lifestyles that people are accustomed to. Students can conceive up to 16 hours a day, starting from early dawn to later in the day; the constant use never stops. While the fascination of technology keeps increasing the improvement rises as well. Albert Einstein once said, "It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity." With that said, two stories have both been bared upon by different outcomes from the use of technology. Both "The Veldt" and "There Will Come Soft Rains", share symbolism, personification, and similes that help support the theme.…

Technology is at the center of our universe. Technology has changed so much since the beginning of time and continues to advance even further. Technology can be both a blessing and a curse. Technology has made many of our lives better, but it has also hindered us as well. Technological advances in medicine are a great example of how technology is necessary. However technology often used in social media encourages less face-to-face interaction. I feel that as a whole we have become too reliant on technology. We need to be able to rely on ourselves sometimes rather than just a device all the time. The main disadvantages that technology brings about are it promotes isolationism, laziness, and lack of privacy.…

Technology has brought tremendous change in our lives. Scientists are continuously working to develop new technologies to provide more useful products in order to make our lives easier. We get up from the bed hearing the sweet fm alarm, brush our teeth with electric brush. In the mean time the oven heats up our breakfast. We eat food, check the weather in phone, and watch the daily news to know the most recent news. Then we take our laptop and head to our workplace by car. That is how we usually start our day. Thus we can realize how much we are dependent on technologies. Even though some people say that technology has lessened the quality of our lives, however, according to all the points of facts it made the world a better place to live.
