Managing Diversity / Individual Reflection Paper
/My personal growth while working on my community growth I must say that it has inspired me to continue working with children and it awaken a knowledge of organizing or funding something that can benefit so, many. I didn’t believe that I had the capabilities to come up with an idea of a program for the community, and that this proposal could take affect if we want to. I learned that I am capable of being a leader. I discovered a new skill where I thought I would never have. I believe that by doing this project I learned and developed the skill to create something that it can actually be done and accomplish. I learned this when I would gather with the rest of the members of the project and ideas just started to come out of my mind and how I saw that we all agreed to and knew that it can work.
This learning matters because my goal is to have a business of my own and by doing this project I was able to see some of the highlights and things need to have an organization either profit or non-profit and this relate to my career because as a manager I need to come up with strategies, schedules, meetings, and so, on. Also the role of being a manager is to give that positive environment to the staff, being a team. Doing this project I came up with new objectives such as being a manager, receiving my master’s degree, and having an own business either in the United States or at my parents homeland.
I learned that you don’t have to be afraid to say things that you think are not going to work and that others are going to be negative about it. What I am trying to say is that by doing this project I learned that any idea could actually be a great idea and function. I have always been the type to be a team member and participate, but with this project I learn to become a leader my teammates and me were the leaders of our proposal, the ones that came up with the concept of the organization. I learned this when we started to come up with ideas for a proposal. When I was

Throughout the project, I have had a phenomenal time. The beginning of the project allowed me to understand how most of the things that assist people today came about, and how we could change the world through the designs we build. The step by step design process allowed us to seek opportunities to help people by looking at the pains, looking at what has been done in the past to solve the pains, then addressing the pains through engineering design methods. The organizational board design was not the first design I wanted to work on, but I am glad that it was the project I worked on. I originally came up with an idea for organizing paperwork at StoneCrest, but nobody jumped onto the design. Then, since there was only a group of two people, and the group I chose to be with originally had five, I ended up joining Jake and Morgan and forming Simplex Solutions. We were able to work together and take various skills of ours, which included CAD, presentation, and machining, and create a design that brought organization to StoneCrest medical center.…

Overall, this experience was very rewarding because we created nothing into something and as a result our project helped families who generally have lower incomes have the necessary school supplies for their children to be successful in school without forcing them to give up something else up. To me diversity is people of different backgrounds and ideas coming together in a respectful relationship. Diversity has truly shaped my life. I am a child of an interracial relationship. My mother is African-American and my father is Caucasian. Growing up I experienced diversity through the different cultures in my own life. I could tell there were distinct differences between my “white family” and my “black family” I would compare one to the other. Many times I didn’t value that diversity because I wanted to be like everyone else. In the area I live in, at the time of my youth diversity wasn’t celebrated. Most people were not racist, but diversity did not seem to be encouraged. Conformity was the accepted normal. I noticed my “white family”…

Today’s society has laws and regulations in place, including Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation (Harvey, C.P. & Allard, M.J., University of Phoenix, 2009) to promote a diverse work environment. The laws and regulations make it so people are hired based on their qualifications and not their race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, disability, or genetic information (“U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission”, n.d.). While these laws and regulations are in effect, there are some people who may not have had any interaction with diversity and do not know how to act or what to or not to say. Diversity training would provide all employees the opportunity to ask questions and have a general understanding of the interactions they will be faced with. Diversity training may also discuss prejudice, stereotypes, discrimination, and privileges and what will not be…

Diversity in my own terms are, accepting anyone and everyone rather just like you or totally opposite. Everyone has their own story and that shapes who they are individually. Two brothers growing up living the exact same life does not mean they are going to grow up with the same beliefs and same aspects of life. Diversity is to have open ears no matter who or what the story is behind the person.…

Secondly: “By the end of the semester, I will have led our group in a minimum of two assignments and taken a role as co-leader for the remainder of projects in order to work on skills that will benefit me as I transition into the workforce”. Instead of leading, I have learned how to work better with others. Taking the sole lead was not necessary for my group. We all worked well together and were there to help one another. I did succeed with achieving half of that goal. I have grown to be a better teammate, better with cooperation, better in delegation, better with time-management and better with holding myself accountable.…

Often times as a society, we tend to think in terms of groups. Which group does one belong to is often decided by where and to whom we are born to. In the same respect, we must also as a society, ask what is it like to be raised in between group’s? This is the blurred line in which I grew up. For me being of mixed race, half of my family is White, Conservatives; while at the same time, the other half are Black, Democrats. Growing up with two groups that are completely opposite to one another was an eye opening experience. But as I got older, the realization that I really don’t fit in with either group only grew.…
