Hsc300 Capstone Project
Summary: Throughout the project, I have had a phenomenal time. The beginning of the project allowed me to understand how most of the things that assist people today came about, and how we could change the world through the designs we build. The step by step design process allowed us to seek opportunities to help people by looking at the pains, looking at what has been done in the past to solve the pains, then addressing the pains through engineering design methods. The organizational board design was not the first design I wanted to work on, but I am glad that it was the project I worked on. I originally came up with an idea for organizing paperwork at StoneCrest, but nobody jumped onto the design. Then, since there was only a group of two people, and the group I chose to be with originally had five, I ended up joining Jake and Morgan and forming Simplex Solutions. We were able to work together and take various skills of ours, which included CAD, presentation, and machining, and create a design that brought organization to StoneCrest medical center.
Ups & Downs: The whole entire project was filled with great moments.

Connections were made throughout communicating with our potential customers, as well as our professors. Networking has been an important part of completing our design, and without it the design could have never been started. Creating Value was what led to many important design decisions. If the design we created for StoneCrest did not satisfy all, or any, of their needs, the design would be doomed to fail. Curiosity allowed us to go through with any design decision we had, no matter how foolish the idea sounded. Taking risks allowed for new implementations to the design that would never be added if we followed simple and standard previous designs. Overall, the project led us to understand the entrepreneurial mindset and put it to use in real world

Surgical Site Infection has a broad spectrum of scientifically attached possible features. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) define it as the infections that take place or occur to the surgically treated site through external effects after the surgery. In the 2010 report done by the CDC where 16 million operative routines were done in a cute center; it was realized that Surgical Site Infections (SSI) were the most usual infections associated to healthcare. This counted to 31% of all the treated patients who were then hospitalized. (Press, 2007) Approaches have been made in coming up with practices in controlling infections. The advances include upgraded ventilation of operation rooms, advancing techniques of surgery, barriers and methods of sterilization and handiness of antimicrobial prevention. Surgical site infections stand out as the major course of morbidness, sustained hospitalization and even death. It has been associated with 3% mortality rate.…

Healthcare has become a consumer driven industry with patient satisfaction equating to good customer service. Effective communication has been shown to be a key factor in both patient outcomes and satisfaction. Additionally, patient satisfaction has become a tool used by insurers to evaluate medical facilities and may impact reimbursement to hospitals for patient care. In this paper, I will discuss the issue of ineffective communication in the waiting area of the surgical services department at Mount Carmel East Hospital. The impact of ineffective communication effects patients and members of the perioperative team. Results of patient surveys consistently showed a decrease in overall patient satisfaction with areas of communication scoring the lowest across the continuum. Substandard scores necessitated a further look at the process of communication and a root cause analysis was used to evaluate the scope of the issue. The current communication process was then observed and compared to best practice models. A summary of this data, included in this report, was used to develop possible solutions to improve communication as part of a continuing quality improvement process. The impact of quality improvement is instrumental in overall patient satisfaction and customer service.…
