Joan Didon Quote That Inspires Me
The first quote that really motivated me was Joan Didon’s quote "Was it only by dreaming or writing that I could find out what I thought?" This really inspired me to think past of who I am as a writer and how I bring myself to the page with my strengths and weaknessess. For me the greatest part of writing is daydreaming and witnessing the transformation I go through when dreaming the dream of my story until it breaks out of the writing down of it which I always find hard.

The bus driver for the town of Sam Dent, Dolores Driscoll, seems very nice and caring, but there are definitely many examples throughout the first chapter that show her to be quite goofy. First of all, a lot of the things she says and the phrases that she uses are very out there and do not seem to make a whole lot of sense. In the second paragraph on page eleven Dolores says, “Doreen was a Pomeroy from Lake Placid, a sweet little ding-a-ling of a girl”. On page 31 paragraph two Dolores also says, “...and it scared the bejesus out of me, although I could not for the life of me tell you why”. These two sentences make her seem a little loony because the things she says are so unique, and even I rarely ever her people use those phrases. This is just one example of how the author portrays Dolores to be just a bit nutty.…

Amanda Boyden once uttered, “Never trust you will be saved by anyone”. Boyden’s terminology advocates that an individual should in no way expect to be defended by any person. As an individual they, have to be self-sufficient and have faith in themselves moderately than depending on others to ‘save’ them. A person has to look after themselves as no will be there to take care of them. Amanda Boyden terms are authentic. Everyone is an individual that has to care for themselves and people around you are not concerned about you. You cannot be a burden on others and expect them to be responsible for you. Evidence of Boyden’s words can be found in S. Peña Young’s short story’ “Cocoon” through the use of characterization, and Jerome Corsi’s article “Bill Cosby and Black Responsibility: The Problem of ‘Blaming the Victim’” through the use of point of view. Mutually the works of Young and Corsi use their works of literature to imply the message of being self-sufficiency and not a burden to others and do not anticipate others to be responsible for you.…

To Kill a Mockingbird is a historical fiction written by Harper Lee. Scout, the protagonist and narrator grows into the ability to see events and ideals from the perspective of others as the book goes on. Atticus says and tries to teach Scout that one cannot understand someone unless one considers things from their point of view. Atticus shows this by living a thoughtful and not biased life. For example, the way he treats Tom Robinson during his conviction and also the entire black community of Maycomb, Alabama. Scout is able to see the true personalities of Dolphus Raymond and Boo Radley by seeing things from their perspectives, instead of seeing them by the stereotypes placed upon them. This book is told from the point of view of Scout,…

One character from my novel, Legend by Marie Lu, who could be identified as a best friend is Day, otherwise known as Daniel. One reason why Day could be considered a best friend is because although he is tough and independent, he is also kind and considerate. The author writes, “A part of me recalls the way he saved me from the skiz fight, that he helped me heal the burning wound in my side, that his hands had been so gentle.” (Lu, 148). In this quote the author explains how Day saved June when she was escaping from a skiz fight. This proves that Day could be a best friend because although he is a criminal, he still saved a stranger, showing that he is kind.…

In Joan Didion’s story, “Goodbye to All That”, she describes in detail her experiences in New York which were great in the beginning, but also caused her to leave after 8 years. So, when she said in the middle of the story that the “lesson” she learned is that it’s possible to stay too long at the Fair, she was referring to the fun times she experienced in New York which became tiresome, were no longer fun or exciting, and therefore, the party was over and time to go home. If the author had left New York the year before she started having negative feelings about it, she may have been able to hold on to the positive impressions she once had, without turning depressed which caused her to leave.…

What motivates me the most is the confidence I have in myself, my future field of study, and my eventual career. My confidence that I will complete my degree with flying colors gives me a sort of “swagger” that I think most people don’t have. This may not be a healthy swagger because I picture myself with tons of cash when I retire and living in the country. My confidence does comeback to bite me sometimes because…

Society is going to judge people no matter what they do, so people might as well be who they want to be. In the crucible, during the Salam witch trials, Abigail Williams did what she wanted, she was not the typical Puritan, and definitely not a perfect one at that. She did things women were not allowed to do. She lied, and costed many people their lives because of it. She had a man cheat and blacken his name. She uses her acting skills and the girls around her to get others to believe the fake. Abigail Williams is not the perfect Puritan.…

Writing has always been my favorite hobby. As a kid, I would enjoy reading story books from the school library and then try to remember all those stories while writing essays in the exam. However, my first real inspiration to write something by myself was when I came across a book called "Wise and Otherwise" by Sudha Murthy. Initially, I was too ignorant to know who this lady is, but as I read the stories in this book, I couldn't stop obsessing over her. I was fascinated over how she had described the human facades in a very…
