In The Intrinsic Motivation Self-Assessment

In the Intrinsic Motivation Self-Assessment I scored a 97 out of 125. The scale in the book says I am moderately intrinsically motivated. The range for moderate intrinsically motivated is 75-99 so I am definitely on the high end of the moderate range. I can definitely see I would be considered moderate based on the fact that there are certain things that really motivate me and other things where it really doesn’t. What motivates me the most is the confidence I have in myself, my future field of study, and my eventual career. My confidence that I will complete my degree with flying colors gives me a sort of “swagger” that I think most people don’t have. This may not be a healthy swagger because I picture myself with tons of cash when I retire and living in the country. My confidence does comeback to bite me sometimes because
I honestly don’t enjoy a lot of the courses I am currently taking, but I have to for prerequisite reasons. Biology and English I don’t find particularly challenging, but they are just a drag to sit through in my opinion. English isn’t as unbearable as my high school English because it’s less literature and more writing and formulating arguments. I am miles better at writing than I am at reading classic literature, but it still isn’t ideal. Biology, on the other hand, is the definition of torture for me. I literally can’t think of anything more uninteresting to me than cell division and other subjects within Biology. That goes for all sciences. For example, I like being out in nature and doing outdoorsman activities, but I could careless about how the deer I saw exists. I just know it does. I am not getting a college degree to further my academic interests, but to be able to live a good life and be able to feed my kids. Overall, my curiosity and the world of academia don’t drive me to do well at
