Marie Lou Legend Quotes
One character from my novel, Legend by Marie Lu, who could be identified as a best friend is Day, otherwise known as Daniel. One reason why Day could be considered a best friend is because although he is tough and independent, he is also kind and considerate. The author writes, “A part of me recalls the way he saved me from the skiz fight, that he helped me heal the burning wound in my side, that his hands had been so gentle.” (Lu, 148). In this quote the author explains how Day saved June when she was escaping from a skiz fight. This proves that Day could be a best friend because although he is a criminal, he still saved a stranger, showing that he is kind.
One of the main settings in the novel is where June Iparis lives, in one of the republic's wealthiest districts. I believe that where June lives is an ideal setting, because it is a well run place where the residents can

The conflict is resolved in the story when June escapes with Day and flees the republic. The author writes, “Then we reach the exits, burst out onto the street, and a pair of soldiers is upon us... But then we’re off. Batalla Hall moves away from us.” (Lu, 294). The quote shows how the conflict is resolved as Day and June manage to escape from the society. One song that relates to the conflict is “When You’re Young”, by 3 Doors Down . This song states, “They all say I don’t know what I’m doing. I say they hardly understand.” This is an example of a man, the singer, in a conflict with a rebellion society that does not understand him.
One theme that can be identified in my novel, Legend, by Marie Lu, is rebelling against the government. June says, “A group of protesters have streaked their hair scarlet, imitating the bloodstained lock Day had when he’d stood out here for his sentencing.” (Lu, 211). The textual evidence provided shows that the people in the community are rebelling against the government by standing up for a

Similarly, this type of tension is shown extensively in Georg Buchner’s ‘Danton’s Death’, set during the French Revolution and written five weeks before Buchner was arrested for his own revolutionary activities. The main tension is between Danton and Robespierre. Robespierre has the radical view that the only way to win the revolution is through violence and loss, Danton conversely, takes a more peaceful approach, and would rather stop all murder and defeat. He protests against power and eventually gives himself in to show violence does not solve anything. In the end it is betrayal which causes Danton’s death. This is similar to ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ because Robespierre and Danton represent two different political views and when they clash…

If you have ever been in the midst of a big project and lost determination, chances are you needed motivation, and what better motivation is there than quotes? People turn to quotes when they are sad, happy, stressed, etc. to read about their feelings that they can't quite express. Quotes can come from small authors, big companies, or even anonymous unpaid writers, but nevertheless , all quotes affect us in one way or the other. Quotes can be applied to people as they describe a person or persuade a reader to learn from their inspirational content. With this logic, I hand picked anonymous quotes that would describe and teach Gigi, Bette, and June how to take a deeper look at their hidden personalities.…

In her youth, Jeannette struggled with denial to understand the reality of her family life. When she was a young girl and her family didn't have a roof over their heads she only saw the good in the situation. In one instant Jeannette describes a discussion between herself and her sister Lori “I told Lori how lucky we were to be sleeping out under the sky like Indians, ‘We could live like this forever’ I said,” (18). This quote connects to my claim because it demonstrates that when she was young, Jeannette was in denial about the hard times her family faced. This passage also shows that as a young girl Jeannette had not yet reached her prosperous future. Jeannette was not only blind about her family life but also about her family themselfs.…

    David Lurie Quotes

I strongly and redoubtably agree with the statement made about David Lurie in J.M Coetzee's novel Disgrace. The first impression that I and most readers dig into is that David Lurie is a selfish, and disgusting pig. Once we become more open minded about David and look at other issues surrounding his pigish behaviours, we see that there is a combination of wreckless and humane characteristics, which in turn contradicts the other in the novel, as there is not one point where David Lurie is completely defined as one of the characteristics, but both of them. Therefore David is hard to like at first but there are parts of the novel, where we can be understanding and accepting of David. My essay will explore these disputes and will show the areas…

Often times in literature we find common themes, meaning the same idea can be conveyed by another writer. In Anthem by Ayn Rand and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury common themes of individuality, leadership, and broken societies that need to be rebuilt arise. As we see through reading Fahrenheit 451 and Anthem one must break through the norm of society in order to achieve true individuality, so they can become a leader, in order to rebuild a society which is otherwise broken.…
