Project Management Knowledge Areas
Recommended Tool(s)
Justification for Tool
Project Integration Management WBS Use WBS to define each project such as recruiting, success planning, e-forms, employee database, time cards for payroll, performance review, position control, employee self service, communication, and government compliance . Created the WBS for each of these projects and allocate to the appropriate departments.
Project Scope Management
WBS Use the WBS created in Integration to look at the scope of each project. Once the scope is determined for each and allocates it to the correct departments and team members.
Project Time Management Gannt Chart and/orWBS Create a gannt chart and list all the projects, the estimated time to completion as well as estimated cost. List each part of the project and give it a time line on the chart. Using this you can track it daily, weekly, monthly, or whenever you wish. Could also use a WBS to breakdown the projects and put a time line on each part of the project to show how each team member worked on it. Using this will show you how close you can get to being finished by year end as the case study states it was finished 6 months early.
Project Cost Management Earned Value and/or Gannt Chart
Or WBS Project cost management can use earned value once the project has started by calculating what has beenn completed versus what needs to be completed. An also use a gannt chart anuse the tale in the case study to show how much people were paid to complete part of the project and the time spent. Can conduct skype meetings weekly to share the information to all team members. Using Skype to meet will be more efficient because team members could not set a day and time for ALL to meet in one location. A WBS can also be helpful here to separate all the costs and budgets to organize in a manner where the team can understand what money goes where.

In analyzing the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera merger case study, it was obvious that many factors, finances, personalities, and even the community would be involved. The wide reaching affects of a merger between these two types of organizations was eye opening. At the time of the proposed merger, the Utah Opera had a stronger financial footing and was not in danger of closing. The Utah Symphony however, was sliding down a dangerous financial slope. The organizations were structured differently in their number of employees and financial compensation packages. These differences would prove challenging in a merger and could be the basis Bill Bailey would use to oppose such a merger.…

Company X does not currently have any environmental initiatives. There are a few I would readily recommend, going paperless, turning off our computers before leaving, and allowing more telecommuting. Each one of these can help protect the environment by reducing pollution in one manner or another. These are all small changes that could have a big impact. With a company size approaching 150 employees we can generate quite a bit of pollution just in our day to day activities without knowing we did so.…

It has the ability to calculate standard hours, overtime hours, and one-time rates. This goes for individuals, materials, rental fees, etc. Another capability of Microsoft Project is that it has the ability to handle several projects simultaneously.
