Jackson Pollock Argumentative Essay
Artists are constantly coming under fire from those who don’t understand it. This especially holds true for abstract artists such as Jackson Pollock. Critics of Pollock claim that his drip painting style is lazy and uncreative: not art. As a fellow artist I find these claims outrageous and uneducated. I personally believe that Jackson Pollock was an amazing artist and deserved every ounce of fame he got. Art is subjective, there is no right or wrong way to make art. Pollock was considered reclusive, he had an unpredictable personality as well as

When one typically thinks about ‘art’, one usually associates iconic pieces such as Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa or even Michelangelo’s David to name a few. As humans evolved, so did their art pieces and the interpretations people had over whether or not the ‘artwork’ is truly a work of art. In the past, being an artist was highly respected, such as in the times of the Renaissance where they were alongside philosophers and others of the sort, an example being Leonardo Da Vinci. Nowadays, the arts are often looked at with disdain due to people believing they are simple and lack rigor compared to other fields such as the medical field. One form of art that experiences this severely is street art which is the focus of Banksy’s documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop. Banksy has two main points in the film, which is to give the audience a brief history of street art along with displaying the growth of an artist, that being Mr. Brainwash or Thierry Guetta, a main protagonist in the film.…

Despite the conflicting public opinion, Chris McCandless succeeded in his goal to survive in the wilderness and taught the world valuable lessons in the process. Chris McCandless “probably died on August 18th, 112 days after he had walked into the wild.” (119, Krakauer) He survived with very little gear and food, even though he was essentially cut off from the world. To have lived for a little over three months totally self-sufficient is impressive. Chris’s goal was to be independent and live off the land for a while. In his mindset, he achieved in his goal. Wayne Westerberg had employed Chris for two short amounts of time, but said “He was the type of person who insisted on living out his beliefs.” (Krakauer, 67) This was why Chris was determined to go to Alaska, instead of listening to the protests of others.…

The Frontier Post, an English newspaper mostly based in the Middle East, released a particularly powerful advertisement in 2013 to promote safe driving. At first glance, it would appear that the advertisement is a picture of a firearm, front and center, placed in the spotlight of an otherwise gloomy backdrop. In reality, the advertisement depicts a set of car keys, cleverly arranged to resemble a revolver. Underneath the gun lies a very somber message, “Takes one life every 25 seconds, Drive Safe”. The bottom right corner displays the organization’s information, and the bottom left corner offers a citation for the hair raising statistic. One could quickly deduce that the Frontier Post was targeting people’s susceptibility to fear with this ad. The advertisement uses fear in order to evoke emotional responses to successfully fulfil its purpose.…

I notice in your response of clinical informatics being implemented on units that the inpatients are provided iPads to access for their medical records? To take part of their care? WOW! That seems bizarre to me. It seems like it would be asking for trouble. Wouldn’t you agree? Antoinetta, I can’t help to imagine the patient laying in bed, board, obviously not a real sick patient, asking a multitude of questions, for example, “what does this word mean”, “what does that lab result represent”, “why is that”, “what is this” . I know the patient is entitled to asking those questions, but I just feel that that would be the wrong time to provide them what that level of access when they need to be healing. We, the nurse,…
