B) Company Business Description

Tan Holdings Berhad (THB)

I. Company History:

Tan Holdings Berhad (THB) (formerly known as Tan Berhad) was founded by Datuk Tan Seng Man in 1957 which is the year of Malaysia Independence and the company headquarters located at Jalan Ampang in the center of Kuala Lumpur. In the early years, THB started its business by venturing into palm oil industries. The company acquires a piece of 1500 acres of land from the government of Malaysia to begin its palm oil plantation in Kerling, Selangor. In 1990, the founding chairman Datuk Tan Seng Man decided to retire and his son Tan Sri Tan Cheng Mun replaced his position as the new chairman of the company. Soon after he took over his father position as chairman, he always wishes THB to be listed in Bursa Malaysia as one of the public listed companies in Malaysia.

In year 1992, the company changes it’s name from Tan Berhad to Tan Holdings Berhad. At the same year, THB has been successfully listed in Bursa Malaysia and the company obtains the funding from its initial public offering. When the company has been listed in Bursa Malaysia, Tan Sri Tan Cheng Mun decided to maximize the company wealth by venturing into Food industry business in 1992. THB also manage to set up a subsidiary company named Tan Food Industry Berhad to manage the holdings company’s food industry business. Since then, THB has begun to flow into international market when the company successfully acquires multiple food production plants in Malaysia and started to export the food products to Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, United States and United Kingdom. The company also obtains the ISO 9001 from the government of Malaysia. In 1999, the company begins to venture itself in property investment and development industry. THB successfully bough several piece of properties in Malaysia and also in other foreign countries such as China, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. In 2014, THB was ranked 36th in the Forbes
