Employees acting towards company goals and having a strong desire to remain in the organisation are very important for the success of a company. In order to generate such organisational commitment of the employees, the knowledge about what motivates and satisfies them is essential.
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and analyse the factors which motivate employees, under consideration of individual characteristics. This study will make use of individual characteristic such age, gender, position work area, position and year a person has served in the organization. Literature review and questionnaire weres used to provide enough data for this research.
The research identified eight (08) important factors for the motivation of employees being; skill, task identity, task significance, autonomy, feedback, environment, compensation, and job security. The most critical factor has been identified in my research.

On completion of my studies BTEP -Diploma in Business Administration I will be working with individuals or group of individuals with different attitudes, behavior or characteristics therefore this project is crucial and it provides me with knowledge and experience on how best to positively induce individuals or a group of individuals increase their output in the workplace.
This research also give me opportunity to learn and identify the courses of job satisfaction or dissatisfaction as a well as ways to foster organizational commitment amongst employees either at government, parastatal and NGO level. I have set objectives which will guide the research process in order to gain a deeper knowledge about the motivation of employees.
I will also learn how to plan for activities, implement, evaluate and learn how to overcome challenges. I will also have to interact and experience the actual information on employee motivation from people of high positions (Head of Training) who are hands on and gone through work related challenges
Areas of learning to be used in this project are;

The presentation on research findings in the form of pie charts, bar graphs and scatter diagrams need Information and Communication Technology skills. I will also make use of the Internet for research of secondary information.
Communication Skill 4
Communication skills became useful when conducting interviews (oral communication) with Zwenshambe Brigade Head of Training Caretaker. The skills are very important for setting out questionnaires (written communication) to be filled in by Zwenshambe Brigade employees.
Answers of the respondents will be analysed by using mean. Thereby, certain subgroups such as age, gender, marital status of the respondents, the work area (blue-collar/white-collar worker), the position (leading/non-leading position), and the years a person has been working in the company represented the basis for the analysis.
