Internship report
1.0 CHAPTER ONE
1.1 Introduction
Internship is a method of on-the job training for professional careers. Internships consist of an exchange of services for experience and it helps a student to determine whether they have an interest in a particular career. In addition to this it helps a student create a network of contacts and widen their scope of thinking. Internship most importantly is a university requirement that enables a student gain credit towards a degree. A student can be able to gain practical skills and knowledge about an organisation’s functions and structure.
I undertook internship at the Ministry of Finance planning and Economic Development
(MFPED); I was attached to the Information Technology section under the department of
Finance and Administration. It is located at Plot 2/12 Apollo Kaggwa Road, in Kampala district.
MFPED uses an internet based Information Sharing Network which entails installation of high speed data links within the ministry and its subsidiaries; standardization of documents formats, an integrated messaging system and unrestricted access to public information through the internet. 1.2 Background
The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development derives its mandate and functions from the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and other related subordinate laws, including; the Budget Act (2001), the Public Finance and Accountability Act (2003) and acts establishing agencies and auxiliary organisations. Accordingly, the Ministry plays a pivotal role in the co-ordination of development planning; mobilisation of public resources; and ensuring effective accountability for the use of such resources for the benefit of all Ugandans.
