The internship was geared at giving a practical touch on what is learnt in the class room. It also offered a practical perspective in relation to the theories learnt; thereby assisting in putting together what was learnt in class to and what goes on in the real social world.
My decision in choosing the Safari Park Hotel and Casino particularly in the sales and marketing department and front office management department was a deliberate action since it offered an opportunity for exposure in both tourism and hotel management . During this study, I was supposed to assume the role an assistant Banquets manager and also the front office I was to assume the role of front office personnel. The internship was aimed at learning about the daily happenings and the various activities of the hotel and casino.
The Safari Park Hotel and Casino is located across Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani along Thika Highway.
1.1 Background study of the Safari Park Hotel and Casino
Recognizing the potential of tourism as a tool for socio-economic development, the Korean government with local investors took the opportunity to build a five star hotel and casino in Kenya. The hotel was built on 54 acres’ that was once belonging to the British army back in the colonial days.
1.2 Core Functions
1.2.1Provide five star accommodation:
The Hotel and casino provides fine star services and accommodation to its international and local clients.
1.2.2Provide grounds for different functions:
The hotel due to its large gardens and hotel conference rooms is responsible of coordinating weddings and conferences.
1.2.3Provide top Government functions with catering services.
The hotel is in charge of the official state functions catering services and Government Functions involving international and local guest.
1.2.4Facilitation to company and organization meetings:
The hotel and casino facilitates security, accommodation and conference functions in the different conference rooms.
1.3 Operations of the Safari Park hotel
The Hotel and casino is divide into different departments to cater to the basic needs of the clients as they are facilitated in the hotel.

The Department is charged with the responsibility of developing, maintaining and regulating the highest standards of the hotel to reach optimal services that are of the highest level in the hotel industry. Its Different departments are as follows with their functions: -

This department consists of individuals who are responsible of the numbers of guest who are in the hotel as they are responsible of selling the hotels products to the outside clients.
