In this report I will discuss the impact of electronic information on individuals and society. I am going to talk about how the ways people access information has changed and how new technologies have played a part in this. Firstly I will talk about how increased availability of electronic information has changed mine and my family’s daily lives. Then I'll consider how this has affected the older generation, in particular, the elderly. After that, I’ll explore some of the ways organisations these days communicate with individuals and society, and finally I'll talk about people who do not have access or don't want to have access to the internet and the possible consequences of this.…

Technology taking over human jobs has been a problem since as early as the 1700s. New innovations reduce the need for people in the workforce, “Since the industrial Revolution began in the 1700s, improvements in technology have changed the nature of work and destroyed some types of jobs in the process” (Rotman). Just recently, our class had the assignment of 24 hours unplugged where we all had to go without technology for 24 hours. I can’t honestly say that I enjoyed my unplugged experience. Television is not a big thing to me, although there are a few shows I do enjoy. The internet, computer, and phone I use daily, more than once, so that was a really tough thing for me to handle. My day was completely different in terms of logistics, as I use the computer daily for my school work and email, so I had a lot of difficulty being able to do any school work, or work in general. I also use the phone to contact my family, friends, and boyfriend. I did not enjoy this aspect of living “unplugged”. I definitely hated the fact that I could not do any work or talk to anyone. Plus I am nosey so I love to watch the news and know what is going on daily, and I couldn’t do that either. I would say that it was easy when I first began, but as the hours went on, I got bored and I would have to say that I gave up. I don’t think psychological effects really played a big part, honestly. It is clear to me now, that technology definitely plays a big role in our society, maybe even bigger than people tend to realize.…

The other night I had a terrible nightmare. My friend and I ignored each other when we were having lunch because we were both busy texting somebody else. I barely remembered our conversation because it was fragmented. After that, I logged on Facebook, on which I had already spent all my spare time, trying to catch up with my 1000+ “friends”. Unfortunately, I found most of them I barely know or see. Oh wait, it’s not a dream. It’s happening in reality. With the rapid development of communication technology, new methods of communication, for example cell phones and the Internet, are popularizing in daily lives and are replacing the old way of communication – face-to-face interaction. The use of communication technology has had negative effects on daily lives: it destroys the quality of personal communication, causes social isolation and leads to many addictions.…
