A.L. Lederer and A.L.Mendelow did a survey on 20 US companies to decide the senior management problems preventing effective development of IS/IT strategic plans. A previous survey showed that top- management commitment was a need to success but that was often hard to obtain.
The following was identified in there research:
• Top management lacked knowledge and awareness of the impact of Information systems and Information Technology, they didn’t understand how the IT/IS was offering strategic advantages. To them computers were known as an operational context.
• Top managers treated information as not important as a business resource as a long term benefit.
• Top management demand to see financial justification for investment.
• Top managers have become action orientated with shirt term focus that helps putting much effort into long term planning.
