How to Get Better at Basketball
Hey all you amateur basketball players out there. Read this to find out how to improve your game!

Tip 1:
To be a great basketball player, you first must know your strengths and weaknesses. Big tall people don't need to shoot threes and short people shouldn't be in the middle struggling to get rebounds. Very physically able players should use that to there advantage to jump higher, run faster, and play better than their opponents. Not very strong or fast players should use fakes and their brains to score points.

Tip 2:
Team mates hate ball hogs, especially ball hogs who don't have any skills. Team mates respect passers who can penetrate and pass.

Tip 3:
If you're on a fast break and there aren't any defenders, then you don't need the whole team running down the floor, duh. Some people should stay back on defense.

Move 1: The Drop Step
This is a move to help you get to the basket. While your powering off the dribble and about to take a lay-up, instead of the two steps, you can land of your two feet at the same time, pump fake, and then get in the air again and shoot the ball. This helps your self from tripping over legs because you can easily jump over them.

Move 2: The Jumper
While your putting the moves on the defender but you're not getting anywhere, bounce the ball "behind" your back, not "around" your back (there is a difference), then jump backwards, catch the ball in your hands and shoot it. This move shakes off your defender for enough time to give you space for a good shot.

Move 3: The Spinning Crossover
Start with dribbling the ball with either hand, then cross over to the other hand but while its still in the other hand, spin around that way to bring it back to your right. For example, let's say you start with your right hand, once you take the ball to your left hand the defender might move to the left thinking you will go that way.

First bend legs about 90 degrees. Next, bend the dominant arm which had the ball in it, like the 2 pointer. Then, put the non-dominant arm on the side of the ball. Push up with legs, jump, and at the same time push your arm with the ball, do not forget to move the hand down to push the ball. The three pointer is not the last shot to learn. The last shot the player would need to learn is a foul shot. This shot only happens when there is a shooting foul. It is one point. First, bend the legs 90 degrees like the first two shots, but the player must be behind the line. Bend the dominant arm 90 degrees with ball in it. Push up with legs, but the player can not cross the foul line, which is the straight line in front of the basket,so the player can do a small jump but, he can not cross the line. Then put non-dominant hand on the side of the ball. Next push dominant hand up and forward, and of course catapult it forward. After completing these steps the player can complete a foul shot.…

The technique or proper shooting form also plays a key role when shooting the ball. Tips to remember when learning how to shoot are getting your feet squared up to the basketball goal, place the dominant foot a couple inches ahead of the non-dominant foot, and bend the knees. This is called the base of the jump shot. Other techniques include the hand placement on the ball. Once the ready position is completed and the ball is crossing the net, the key is to get both feet behind the ball. Also, it is important to get to the spot quickly and then wait for the ball to come to you. Keep both hands free when moving to the ball. From the ready position, keep knees bent and move to the left or right with a shuffle or side step. When the correct spot is reached, return to the ready position with your hips lining up with the target. If possible, it's essential to avoid making contact with the ball while moving.…

The game of basketball was originally started with only 13 rules. The game has been expanded to a multitude of changes throughout the years and therefore has acquired close to one hundred more rules. In the 1970s through the 1990s it was always thought that bigger was better when it came to players. According to Merlino, almost every winning team back then was built around a dominant “Big Man” and that was how they would win. In the present, “Big Men” are not the position of choice for many and teams are now being built around point guards, shooters, and more all-around players. Even one of the league’s most prominent “Big Men” Dwight Howard stated, “It’s not a fun position. It’s a very tough position. It’s one…

The Truth About A Quick First Step What is a First Step The first step is basically the first step you take of the dribble, when driving towards the basket, in order to beat your opponent to the hoop. It does take the right strength, coordination, and the right boost of energy, which is required from the leg you typically use to make your first step, but to become a better player, you should condition both legs to be able to take the first step when driving to the hoop. You will find that with the quick first step move, you will be able to blow by any player one on one, and it will greatly improve your overall game when facing the basket. So, when training, you have to make sure to use the right drills, weight lifting, and leg workouts, in order to build up the strength, allowing you to quickly push off, and breeze by your defender. There are 2 basic components of the first step. First is the force, which is the strength you exert along with how quickly you apply it. Therefore, to improve your first step, not only do you need more force and strength in your legs and core, but you need to know which leg to push off, and when to push off, in order to have a faster first step. The second component is coordination, which is the actual ability to perform the move. The only real way to improve coordination is to continually practice your first step, off both legs, until you perfect the move. Importance of a First Step There are several reasons you want to have a great first step. First off, it is going to make you much more of a threat when the opposing team is playing one on one defense. Even when help defense comes your way, if your first step is quick enough, they are not going to be able to reach you before you make it in for the easy layup or dunk. Your first step is also important to be a better passer, and find the open man. If you are quick enough, you will draw more defense towards you, leaving teammates open, and allowing you to dish out for a quick jump shot,…
