Basketball Player Classification Essay
Basketball is one of the most diverse sports when it comes to having different types of players. The beauty of the sport is that all of the players are needed to win and not just one player. There are countless ways a player can contribute to the team and the game. In fact, there are around a dozen skills a player can have. However, overall there are three main types of basketball players. First, there are pure shooters who excel in scoring from virtually anywhere. Secondly, there are highly gifted athletes who compete with their speed and jumping ability. Lastly, there are all-around players who have all of the special skills and are able to perform in every possible way. Players who are skilled in shooting the ball are a desired asset for any team to be successful. They can shoot the ball from anywhere on …show more content…
They have good shooting ability and are also very athletic. Usually if a team has someone like this they are most likely the superstar. All-around players have all of the known skills and that is why they are so rare. For example, LeBron James is a versatile player who can dominate using his speed, defense, and his shooting. He can basically do everything necessary to be unstoppable. Another good example would be Jimmy Butler. He can score, rebound, and defend which is why he is so valuable to his team. Players like these only come every so often and many teams will push to place them on their team. Again, the beauty of basketball is that everyone can find a way to fit in and contribute. In basketball every player is valued and even the bench players are important to the team. All of these types of players are very important to a team. It does not matter which category a player falls into because they are still valuable. Not many sports have the kind of diversity that basketball does. Usually a great team will put together a mixture of shooter, athletes, and have one all-around player if they are fortunate
