These seven programs include Atlanta Prosperity Campaign, Atlanta’s Table, Community Gardens, Hunger 101, Hunger Walk/Run, Kids In Need and Product Rescue Center. I had the opportunity to participate in two of their programs, which were the Hunger 101 program and the Product Rescue Center. I was first introduced to this organization by volunteering for their Hunger 101 program. This program was very enlightening, and it inspired me to make a difference in my community. This program entailed an interactive group session that educated the volunteers about the hunger problem in Georgia. The volunteers participated in a workshop where we were given the role of being a less fortunate person for a day. We were given this person’s income, how many people lived their house, and all the expenses that they had to pay for. We had to use those values to calculate how much money that person has to spend on food per day. I discovered that most of these people had no more than three dollars to spend on food for their whole family in one day.…

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

While at the Stollery in Edmonton, I had the chance to talk with a few people and how the community has helped them. Almost every person I talked to that day mentioned in some way shape or form that the amount of prayers they had been receiving from people in the community was phenomenal. It wasn’t that the community was providing meals, cash or a place for them it was the joy in knowing that people were praying for them. They knew that the prayers may not be answered immediately or ever but that there was support from the community that they belonged to. As well as knowing that they weren’t alone that there were other people struggling with the same thing and that their community was behind them 100%. Another way these people felt the community meeting their needs was that the community had to help their physical needs. Yes, prayer can go a long way but sometimes that physical touch can ease the pain. Many people told me that the provision of meals has made an impact on the time they have been able to have with their family while the child is recovering has made times like these less of a burden and more of an enjoyment. I had one women tell me, “Sometimes it’s hard to accept the help people are trying to give you when you feel like you can be self sufficient. But people don’t mean to make you feel that way they want to help make things right and you learn to accept these things because now you know what it’s like to be on the other side of the…

I conducted an in person interview at Deaconess Cross Pointe, 7200 East Indiana Street; Evansville, Indiana 47715. I interviewed Natalie Goffinett, who has achieved her Master’s Degree in Social Work, and counsel’s children and families at that facility. When setting the appointment to interview Ms. Goffinett, I offered her the option to conduct the interview either in person or over the telephone. Ms. Goffinett and I agreed that an in person interview would be best if I wanted to have the opportunity to tour the facilities, as well as develop a sense for inpatient and outpatient environments. Deaconess Cross Pointe is a state licensed facility offering a full range of mental health services and psychiatric care which can meet the emotional and behavioral health care need of children, teen, adults, and their families. This facility meets, and exceeds my career goals and objectives; I would definitely consider working with this agency, as well as recommending others in need of the services that this facility provides.…
