Geo Title
Introduction In the 20th century Pakistani media didn’t made any progress and remained in the darkness, the only source of news was PTV. But the news on that channel was not always right because of political downfall. In the year 2002 Geo TV network has provided people with a through insight into world of politics, Education, Sports, Leisure and Entertainment. Geo TV network informs and entertains while celebrating cultures and promoting dialogue in the spirit of “Geo aor Jene do” .
Geo News is not at all a moderate News Channel. After Musharraf came into Power in 99, every citizen of Pakistan is the victim that there was no campaign for freedom of media, not a single journalist protested against the Government to free the media. Musharraf took the initiative himself and allowed private television channels to air the news. Now Geo is projecting the image that freedom of media is not given by Musharraf and it is being taken after a long tiring struggle.
Geo is unable to show the evidence of this and do only LIP SERVICE as their chief anchorpersons like Hamir Meer, Dr. Shahid Masood and Kamran Khan do in their respective shows? All these anchorpersons have started to project themselves as they are at the level of President. They mostly call most of the as they are their close-friends. Even they don’t feel it their responsibility to call Ministers and even President of Pakistan in some respectful manner. Geo has started to feel itself as the strongest entity in the Country.
History
Geo TV was established in may 2002, and test transmission started on 14th August 2002. Regular was started on 1st October 2002. Geo TV was the first south Asian Urdu language channel to provide content comparable to international standards. The launch of Geo TV brought an incredible change in the efficient and effective approach, it provided the common man of Pakistan to highlight their grievances, comments, suggestions and deliberate their views.

That is why “The Role of State Run Media”, the article published on “Journal of Democracy” would harshly condemn the existence of state control media in the Eastern countries. Gallup Pakistan’s TV Ratings Services, 8.6 million Pakistanis have watched PM Online aired on PTV News & Samaa TV on 1st March 2011. Not so surprisingly 80% of these 8.6 million Pakistanis hailed from rural areas and only 20 % from urban areas. According to Gallup Media Research experts the number is very sizeable in comparison with other High Ratings Programs in the country. The prime reason for such a high figure appears to be near monopoly of PTV in Rural TV viewers of Pakistan. Furthermore, a sizeable number (2-3 million Urban Men and Women) do not have access to Cable Channels and therefore have PTV News as there only available channel. The figure contradicts the prevalent view in the country that Cable Televisions are the only source of information in the country and PTV has lost its relevance.…
