How Video Games Help Students Do Better In School
By now I think that many of you have played some kind of video game in your life. If you are among one of those who were told that it will rot your brain then you were told wrong. Also you might agree that gaming is a great way to spend your free time. Most video games really want you to follow the story from beginning to end. With the advancement of technology, video games have become more interesting than ever before. Also there are games that could help you in school, especially those long history classes about the events that took place during past wars. Most shooting games are based on the worlds greatest and most know wars such as World War I and II, and the Vietnam War.
If you tend to space out in your history class, then you are not alone. Maybe lectures might not be interesting enough to keep some students focused and that’s ok. Maybe, if teachers could use video games during class then their students would be more interested and engaging. It beats sitting in your desk and watching a boring movie and listening to that boring lecture go on and on. While we, the students, all know that we have other things on our minds which we plan to do when class is over. Schools should have some games that actually talk about different kinds of wars that would help teach their classes. This would really help since playing games is fun and you are learning through it is also fun. This will help them focus and remember for if they have test on

Research has shown that video games heighten creativity, decision making and perception. For instance the hit game Mine Craft right now allows you to create your own world from scratch. With millions of possibilities this game really lets your creative side jump out on to your computer screen. There are also a lot of games in circulation right now in which you have to make a certain decision that could change the outcome of the rest of the game. I was playing a game recently where you get to choose whether to have your character take a good path or bad path. I chose good path because of the spiffs I got for being good. Video games also improve your hand-eye coordination, and promote vision changes that heighten your night driving abilities. Research has shown that surgeons that played video games were better surgeons than those that never played at all. Who doesn't want to be a better night driver? During the last decade, attention and accusations within the media have turned more to the meteoric rise in popularity of arcade-type home computer and console games. Considerable anecdotal evidence abounds about how teenagers are affected by shoot-em-up and beat-em-up games. Zimbardo (1982) remarked that video games are so addictive to young people that they may be socially isolating and may actually encourage violence between people. Another comment came from the surgeon-general of the United States, who expressed his personal view that video games were one of the root causes of family violence in America. He was quoted as saying that children "are into the games, body and soul - everything is zapping the enemy. Children get to the point where when they see another child being molested by a third child, they just sit back" (Koop, 1982).…

People seem to have different perspectives on video gaming. Some may say that its bad for you and others may disagree. Steven Johnson, the author of Everything Bad is Good for You, believes that video gaming comes with many benefits. Unlike reading books, video games actually help you trigger your mind and make you analyze situations, he admits. He also claims that when reading a small portion of your brain is devoted and when it comes to video games you trigger most of your senses. When playing video games there are two stages you go through, they are probing and telescoping. Probing is the ability of searching and discovering options as he is introduced to the game. After discovering and understand the game better it leads the player into making decisions which is what Johnson describes as Telescoping. From my own experiences I have to agree with Johnson, I feel that video games can be very helpful and can even improve out academic performance.…

I grew up in a household where video games were a privilege that I had to earn. When I had done all my homework and chores, I was allowed to play video games for an hour a day. As I grew older my parents thought I could make my own choices and did not limit the amount of time I spent playing video games. Many people today think that video games cause children to become couch potatoes, act dumb, and be rude. As a young child, my parents taught me that responsibilities come before the reward. That is why I have a different opinion of video games. I believe that video games can be beneficial to individuals; however, there are limitations. They help children deal with cancer, improve literacy skills, gain educational skills, and stay fit, but individuals should be cautious about the genre of the game and the amount of play time. When these precautions are taken, video games can be a helpful tool for many.…
