Future Human Service Worker: A Case Study

The social policy that may have an effect on me as a future human service worker would be the welfare and food stamp policy. So many people are given assistance and are having assistance taken away from them. The documents and the steps you have to take to get the assistance and if you are making too much money then you cannot get any assistance this is a problem for the single mother who has to have two jobs to pay for her rent and feed her children. According to the USDA if your house hold is two people than you cannot make more than twelve hundred and ninety three dollars net monthly income (“USDA”, 2013). If you do make more than that then you will not qualify to get the assistance. Then you have the problem
These programs could go solicit for donations and volunteers to help keep everything in order. If you were to have a public program then you would have to make changes because of the cuts made because you would have to change their original policy. Some benefits would be eliminated and some shrinking benefits for others this will happen until the new budget can be adjusted. With private programs there is not a long process to go through to see who needs assistance and who does not. There are many ways to influence this policy you could start by making sure the community is educated on this issue so that you could gain community and public support. When dealing with a public program you could talk to some clients about private programs that can provide help. We have a church that every month someone pays $20 and then you get crates of food it has really helped our community with helping to feed their families, we also have a nursing home that has a program called “Warm for the winter” where families can go there and get clothes. I believe if you want to make a change you should start with being a volunteer in the community so that you can give back. I feel if you show kindness you will receive it and you should always give more than you
