Experience in using social media
2.0 Description of personal experience in performing the roles of communication using any of the social media. If you ask me regarding my experience in performing the entertaining role by using social media, the facebook application is the one who entertains me and also entertains others by me. I am a Facebook user. For me, I enjoyed looking the photo uploaded by my friends. I really feel entertained when I saw the picture taken by my friends that travel in foreign countries like Europe, Korean, Japan and China. Although I do not have money to go overseas, I feel that I already reached there by looking at the beautiful sceneries. Besides that, I am a comedy lover. I always relax myself by seeing the comedy short clips. By the way, I always uploaded the comedy video into my facebook account so that my friends that have the same interest as me will be entertained. Some of my friends will even put their comments after playing the video. This is all about my experience in performing entertaining role using Facebook as a social media. In my experience in contributing knowledge using social media, I still remember I share one article regarding “Ways to release tension in urban life” in my blog. One day, I looked at the comment posted by one visitor of my blog saying that “Thanks guy! The breathing methods help me to come across my hectic life.” I really touched on that moment as I did not expect my role in disseminating knowledge helps other to overcome stress. Besides that, I still remembered my participation in online forum for the subject of merchandising during my diploma study. The e-tutor really helps me a lot for my assignment. He provides a lot of guidelines for me in completing my coursework. From this experience, I can conclude that online forum is a good platform for the learners to gain their knowledge for any topics that are difficult to them. The role of persuading using WeChat as social media is very famous nowadays. I had my experience on it to share. I was persuaded by the promotions held by Chatime Malaysia which allows half price for the second drink on every Thursday. In order to enjoy such discount, I have to purchase two drinks at the same time. The goal of persuading is accomplished as I already take action on it. Besides that, I persuade my friends to buy mutual funds by inserting picture on dividend payment for certain funds and sent it to them through Whatsapp. When they saw the dividend yield was attractive, they are willing to buy the mutual funds through me. From here, we know the nature of persuasion can be in the written form also as long as they get what we mean and the most important is I already achieve my goal by performing through the social media tool. The role of unification is now being taken over by the social media nowadays compared to traditional media like television or even radio. This changes may due to the number of social users is far more exceeding the number of traditional media users. I would like to share my experience on it. During the days in finding Malaysian Airlines MH370, I create a Facebook group named “Pray for MH370” and invite all my facebook friends to join. I want to unify all my friends so that we can together to pray for the safety of the flight. Another story to share is I create a WeChat group to all those friends that take the same course as me. Anyone can free to post the news or exam tips here so that everyone belongs to the group can benefit it. It is a very effective way to share the information in a unified communication. The socialisation process can be strengthened if both the sender and recipient are actively taking part in the communication process. I remembered that my Malay classmate, Izzat invites me to his wedding via Facebook. I confirm my attendance in his big day by clicking “Yes”. Izzat felt that I am the one that appreciate the friend relationship although both of us have already leave school for so long time. Besides of this experience, I uploaded the photo of my family during the celebration of Chinese New Year in my facebook so that my Malay and Indian friends will understand more about the culture of Chinese people during their celebration. This is important as all the Malaysians need to learn and accept the culture of other races and this process is called socialization whereby it can be strengthened by putting efforts into it like what I am doing.

Professors and fellow students use this thing called the “Internet” to exchange ideas, assignments, projects etc. Networking sites sprouted and brought about convenience in the passage of information from one person to another. These tools helped me and my classmates stir up the way we experience learning.…

Technology has developed tremendously the past decade, more so than it has in the past, and a variety of businesses are being challenged in this area. People from all over the world are constantly innovating new ideas, brainstorming on how to interact more efficiently, than and as fast as they or it possibly can. In order to do this, individuals must communicate with one another, using resources and updated tools to drive out the competition. Technology has changed business in many ways, but its affect on communication is arguably the most significant (Morley, 2013). Also, the skill to speak plainly and supportive is one of the talents that businesses look for in employees. The use of technology can assist students, companies, and computer gurus with communicating, which will lessen the time it takes. The use of social media in the workplace has elevated concerns about loss of time and productivity. However, our study reveals that at the workplace, social media is being increasingly used by professionals for multitasking and for better time management. (Revathy, 2012) Technology can also have penalties that diminish relationships without the tool as a mediator. There are positive, negative, and gray areas when discussing social networking, social media, and how it has affected businesses or the populace in general.…

Some of these critics tell us that contrary to popular belief, "far from making us smarter, online technologies are actually making us dumber." (Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein. 2006, 168) On the other hand, there are people who challenge this school of thought; they bring up the point that students are able to find a target audience and tweak their writing to appeal to their directed audience because of the use of social media. This whole time the author's advice or opinion on the use of technology had not been mentioned. The information and view points were told to explain the idea from a completely objective stand point. That is however, until the very last paragraphs of this chapter. Graff and Birkenstein give their own view in reference to their combined 70 years of teaching, they do not agree with either side of the argument.…
