Ethical Egoism

I believe in Ethical Egoism and think it would be the best way for people to live. If everyone believed in Ethical Egoism, the world would probably have better people in my opinion. With Ethical Egoism, a person will be able to get ahead in their own life and provide a better life for him or his family. While being an ethical egoist you can still help others so the world won’t be a completely selfish world. And combined with the social contract, it keeps people and things in an order.

By believing in Ethical Egoism and pursuing your own self-interest then your life would be better. Yes, you may have to step on people in your way, but we already do that in life. If someone is competing for the same promotion as you and you know they come in late often, you should make it known so you can get the promotion instead of the other person. Then by getting that promotion, you’re able to provide a better more comfortable life for yourself and family. I do believe it is okay to step on people to promote a better life or situation for yourself.

Yet while being an ethical egoist, you can still help others when your self-interest coincides with the well-beings of others. Of course no one wants to live in a cold, heartless world so by being able to still help others would stop the world from becoming completely selfish. You can give food to a homeless shelter and in return receive a gift card to your favorite store. So you got what you needed and helped you out the best and yet you were still help to someone else. Because whether it comes down to your and the person next to you giving food to the homeless, someone will benefit from doing so, so the homeless still will get fed.

Now with Ethical Egoism combined with the social contract, the world still would not fall apart. Since we would still have laws against stealing and murdering, it would be in a person’s best interest not to commit crime if he did not want to spend the rest of their life in prison. By having the...
