Is the effect of television on society negative?
Television impacts today’s society in so many ways but does it really produces a negative effect on anyone and how? Television has been around for many decades. It started out as a method of bringing families together as a whole. It has also informed society of many important and life-changing events that has occurred or as they occur. For example, television shows like the Brady Bunch, Leave it to Beaver, and I Love Lucy caused many families to gather around the television. The shows brought laughter, helped create fond memories, and allowed families to spend time together. Television can have a negative effect on individuals, depending on the role it plays in one’s life.
Television can have a negative or positive effect on children. The commercials can entice children to indulge in unhealthy lifestyles through fast-food commercials, violence, and affecting the perception of how the world really is. For example, reality shows promotes violence and detaches the child from the true reality of life. It can affect how the child interacts with other individuals in a safe and respectable manner. The positive side to television is that it can also educate children through shows like Sesame Street, Dora, Diego, and the Mickey Mouse Show. The educational can introduce the child to many different cultures, people, and teach social skills.
One’s health can be impacted by television both positively and negatively. Watching too much television promotes inactivity and causes many health problems. The term couch potato depicts a person that does nothing but sits or lies down all day watching television. For instance, my mother watches television all day and indulges in little to no daily activities. This resulted in her developing many health problems, such as weight gain, pain in her limbs and being borderline diabetic. Now there
