My Essay Against Television                  Television has way too many
My Essay Against Television Television has way too many bad influences, not just for children but everyone. It also can have a lot of negative effects, focuses, and criticisms.

There are many negative effects of television that you don’t really think about. For one thing television makes everyone want to watch it instead of finishing something you actually need to do. I also believe television can make you lazy because you are so glued that you can’t play outside or otherwise. I mean couldn’t you do something that’s a lot more constructive then sitting in front of the television.

I like criticizing things that bug me a lot so I don’t think I’ll have any trouble with this one. Have you ever watched a show where small kids swear? That always bugs me so much. I don’t always mind violence but when it gets to out of hand I just want to turn the television off. I also don’t like all of the bad influences that are on the television. I know I mentioned this once but it’s always better to mention something that really bugs you twice.

There are a lot of things that are negative and that you should focus on. Have you ever seen those really perfect families that seem really cheesy? I mean they never do a single thing wrong, doesn’t that really get on your nerves. No family or no one is that perfect. You really don’t get any exercise watching television unless you count your eyeballs moving back and forth, or if your watching one of those exercise channels. I think there are way too many restricted shows. I always think if your going to make them make them so everyone can watch them.

Do you now see actually how many bad points there are to television? I never really noticed until I just took time to think about it. I always thought I really liked television, but now I don’t really care about it. There are also a lot more criticisms that I now notice

Television as we know it today has drastically changed from the days of yesteryear. Even in my 23 years of living, I can still remember a time when you could actually learn something from watching television. I remember sitcoms like the Cosby Show, A Different World, and Family Matters. These were shows that left you with a sense of pride not only in yourself, but your family, and your community. However, somewhere along the line a paradigm shift happened, if you will and changed the course of television as we know it. The networks that broadcast our favorite shows that we trusted to educate us have now turned around and decided that it is more important to make billions of dollars a year entertaining its audiences instead of…

Television has been under fire since its dawn; even though it has been one of the most widely used forms of mass media since it replaced radio after the 1940’s. By both mirroring and modeling American cultures and values , television gave critics a platform to create regulations because of the negative impact that it seemed to be having on our youth, yet at the same time praising it for creating public awareness.…

Television can also consume time people should be spending looking for work or even working. Some people have become so obsessed with watching television all day that they often forget they are supposed to out looking for work or online looking for work. They often then tell themselves that they will just do it tomorrow and then in fact don’t because they are stuck back n zombie land on their couches. I believe television is a predator to human society. I think TV has a great negative effect on people who watch it too much. It sucks you in and wastes a lot of your time. I believe television is the reason for so many people to be out of shape. Not only are you immobile but people also have a tendency to snack while they are watching TV. They eat unhealthy food and don't take the time to exercise afterwards. Children who watch TV hear coarse language and see violence, crime, use of drugs, and sex. Many programs are not educational at all. Most are fictional cartoons or movies that don't teach you anything. Most parents want their young children to learn and watch educational programs but they are not always able to watch them. Younger people see things on TV and think it is okay when it is not. They hear someone in a movie swear and they might repeat it around others. Children look up to certain people and if they see someone on TV doing something like drinking or smoking they might think it is cool and copy that person. Families don't have enough time together because they are glued to the TV set. They may watch TV with each other but they aren't usually able to talk with each other while the TV is on. Meal times are often spent at the TV instead of at the table interacting with each other. Many children will not have as good imaginations as others because TV doesn't require you to use your brain at all. People also lose sleep because they don't want to miss a show that is on late. TV has an enormous negative affect on people and on society. They should limit the time they spend watching TV and should choose programs…

The first negative effect of television on children is making them ignore useful activities. As children are addicted to watching TV, they spend most of their time watching it. As a result, they spend less time on other activities such as reading and studying. Some children read books or do their homework in front of the TV set. Others do their homework quickly so that they can have more time to watch TV. In addition, many children like spending their leisure time staying at home and sitting in front of a TV set. They do not care outside activities that can benefit them more. They are not also interested in enjoying their hobbies or taking part in a club where they have a chance to contact people and enrich their personality. Therefore, they cannot develop the art of conversation and lack the communication with the outside world. This makes them become shy and less self-confident when contacting people around.…

Too much TV viewing definitely reduces school performance. That interferes with study, reading, and thinking time. If children do not get enough sleep because they are watching TV, they will not be alert enough to learn well on the following day. TV also replaces active types of recreation. As well as decreases time spent playing with peers. A child has less time for daydreaming and thinking. Television takes away time for participating in sports, music, art, or other activities that require practice to achieve competence.…

Television has come a long way since its invention in the 1900’s. People around the world have got to witness many historical events such as, the first man to walk on the moon, to even the inauguration of our first African American president. Although there were many great moments in history viewed on television, not many of the programs offered on stations are valuable. There have been many arguments on whether or not television has been a good influence on our children. I feel there are many advantages and disadvantages to television. But sometimes, television may not always be a good source of information for children and their development. There is also no excuse to use television to babysit children. Children become affected from over exposure to television. I feel television is fine if viewed in moderation. There are many alternative activities we can do instead of sitting on our couch and watching pointless shows.…
