Essay On Therapeutic Cloning
Dear Cantwell,

My name is Briana Cibrian and I am a junior at Anacortes high school in Anacortes Washington. I approve on the subject of cloning but the kind of cloning that should be available is therapeutic cloning and not reproductive cloning.

Therapeutic cloning is the use of technology to help find possible cures, and treatments for diseases and disabilities. In addition, I want you to vote on this because therapeutic cloning can help many people. Therapeutic cloning can benefit many people in the field of medicine. According to Simon Smith ‘’..cloning may lead to a cure for heart attacks, a revolution for cosmetic surgery, and organs for organ transplantation’’.

One of the reasons that therapeutic cloning can be useful is that it can help make vital organs. This would be helpful because people suffering kidney and other disorders, who are forced to wait for years for a replacement organ (‘’The Pros’’). If we had therapeutic cloning then people wouldn’t have to wait so long for a replacement organ. The organ would be an exact match of the patient’s DNA. The vital organ would be made out of the patient's own cell, doctors wouldn’t have to worry about organ or tissue rejection by the immune system of the patient. Another reason that it

74% of americans want to put research into therapeutic cloning, so researchers can study more about it. If we had therapeutic cloning then we would find cures for diseases like leukemia, parkinson's disease, cancer, heart attacks, alzheimer's, cosmetic surgery, diabetes, and many more. If therapeutic cloning using embryos is a success than with finding new cures we would save countless of lives and increase the life of countless others. Like for diabetes would use insulin secreting, and nerve cells in stroke for parkinson’s disease. With further advances in understanding of how organs regenerate it would increase the possible treatments that could be

Therapeutic Cloning- Therapeutic cloning is cloning that is performed for the purpose of medical treatment. It could theoretically be used to grow a replacement organ, for example, to generate skin for a burn victim, or to create nerve cells for someone suffering from brain damage or a neurological condition. The process is closely related to reproductive cloning, in which a copy of an organism is produced, but the two have very different end goals.…

Ever since the birth of the first cloned sheep, named Dolly, the dream of human cloning has existed (Van Dijck, 1999). Cloning a mammal is described as the manipulation of an animal or human cell in order to create an identical copy of that animal’s or human’s nucleic DNA (Andrews, 1997). Though the dream of a human clone also comes with a lot of controversy regarding ethics and morals. Embryotic stem cell research, which could lead to a renewable source of human tissue, cells and eventually entire organs (Bowring, 2004), is highly controversial due to the necessity of placing a cloned embryo into a woman’s body in order to achieve that research. Politicians differentiate between therapeutic cloning and reproductive cloning as they refer to the second as “implanting a cloned embryo in a woman's womb” (Bowring, 2004), as for the embryo itself the research is not very therapeutic. Furthermore cloning by transfer of nuclei is not very effective yet as only 1% of manipulated sheep eggs reach adulthood and the number is even lower for other animals (Solter, 2000). The question whether human cloning will ever be possible and ethical remains to be answered but it seems certain that extra research in embryotic stem cells will improve techniques and success rates, which eventually brings the realization of a human clone closer one step at a time.…

When scientist clone a certain animal or thing they always do it for very different reasons and their ideals are different. “The advantage of therapeutic cloning in medical treatment is that it would allow doctors to grow replacements for missing and damaged parts for their patients.” (Positive And Negative Effects of Cloning” 7).…

There are some positives to cloning but only therapeutic cloning when it is used to replicate cells. Therapeutic cloning produces embryonic stem cells for creating tissues to replace injured or diseased tissues(3). This can be used to cure people not harm them. Artificial cloning can be good for the studies and discoveries that have been made but otherwise the animals that die are not helping anyone.…

Researches and scientists may use cloned embryos to find cures for diseases. However, according to Boffey, the “risk that a cloned baby would be born with birth defects or face medical problems”is extremely high. It goes against all ethics to produce children that may be disabled for their whole lives. The idea of cloning children for the sole purpose of finding cures is similar to the idea of having children for the sole purpose of helping cure an older sibling. Both of these concepts involve selfishly bringing a child into the world and possibly ruining his life. These scientific ideas go against moral and ethical codes and will “turn children into manufactured products rather than independent…

Many people argue whether cloning is unethical or if through genetics the life span of a person may be improved. Human cloning creates questions about the soul, the role of god in society, and even the quality of life that a cloned person would have (Health Research Funding). Cloning is a number of different processes that produce identical copies of DNA. There are three different types of cloning: gene cloning, reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning. Gene cloning is the process where copies of genes or segments of DNA. Reproductive cloning is a copy of animals. Therapeutic cloning is embryonic stem cells for experiments to replace injuries or diseased cells. Cloning can be used for many reasons such as medical research, endangered or extinct species could be recreated, reproducing a loved pet that is deceased, cloning livestock for a higher quality milk or meat, and also…

Proponents of human cloning hold out two hopes for its use: (1) the creation of children for infertile couples (so-called "reproductive cloning"), and (2) the development of medical miracles to cure diseases by harvesting embryonic stem cells from the cloned embryos of patients (euphemistically termed "therapeutic cloning").…

When people hear about cloning they imagine an army of duplicate human beings being created in a sterile laboratory to fulfill the desires of achieving the perfect child. Therapeutic cloning is entirely different and does not involve creating a perfect human replica. Instead it creates cells that could be used to replace diseased or damaged cells in the human body providing cures for previously untreatable diseases. However, therapeutic cloning is very controversial as it throws up many ethical and moral questions.…

Cloning can change the way we live our lives. If we could perfect cloning we could do amazing things with science. For example, cloning could help out in many experiments. Maybe save lives by helping to find a cure for diseases by using a clone of someone you were examining, but died in the process. Like the movie “My Sister's Keeper”, in this movie the oldest daughter is diagnosed with Leukemia and the parents create a younger daughter that is almost an exact replica of her. The younger of the two is used for parts every time the older needs them. Cloning could be used a lot in situations like this. “I take the view that anything you can do to relieve suffering or improve human health will usually be widely accepted by the public - that is to say, if cloning actually turned out to be solving some problems and was useful to people, I think it would be accepted.” (John…

Cloning is useful on a bacterial level for doing all sorts of science related to DNA. Bacterial clone libraries are kept with every gene we find. Cloning on a larger scale would allow us to produce an organ transplant without worry of rejection from the host. Whole animal cloning is only useful for people who want the same looking pet they had that died or maybe you had a good steak and you wanted to clone that cow. The possible impact of cloning is improving the overall standards human beings. Cloning will do a lot for medical research. It will also challenge people’s ideas about life and about themselves. Disadvantage of the use of cloning are adding clones to the population would make things worse, world would eventually explode. Benefits of the use of cloning such as medical emergencies for an example if someone needed a heart or someone needed something donated or replaced. Cloned genes are also used to produce drugs, insulin, clotting factors, human growth hormone, and industrial enzymes. In 1952 scientists transferred a cell from a frog embryo into an unfertilized egg, which then developed into a…

“ It lays the technical groundwork for cloning-to-produce-children, which raises a host of ethical concerns. It could lead to fetal farming--growing cloned embryos to a later stage so that their valuable organs can be harvested for research or transplantation.” (Stark) This quote shows that clones can be created for their organs which could also help people. “Boisselier said the public needs to know "there is a huge demand" for cloning technology from couples unable to have children.” (Spar) This quote shows that people can use clones as their children if they are unable to have children. As you can see, The evidence shows that cloning would be a big help for…

In order to understand Therapeutic cloning is important to define what stem cells are? Stem cells have the capacity to develop in any type of cell of the human body. For scientist this is a great advancement because stem cells can be used to reproduce and create organs to help people who are in need of an organ transplant or are undergoing terminal diseases. The opposition to therapeutic cloning argues that embryos should not be created for the sole purpose of being used as resource tools, human dignity and the mining of human life are reduced by this action. The progression of cloning researches create a controversy among the population which brings up the question should therapeutic cloning be allowed?…

By cloning embryos, it is possible to further medical science, assist people with physical diseases, and doesn't actually focus around cloning a human. To begin with, cloning can be used in the form of cloning embryos to further the field of stem cell research. For example, in the article “Cloning Embryos: Scientific Milestone or Moral Offense?”, it is stated that, “Stem cells taken from adults, though less morally questionable, are less likely to grow outside the body and are not as versatile as embryonic stem cells”. This asserts the idea that although cloning embryos seems wrong, they would not become fully developed humans and instead would be used to help the lives of those with disabilities and medical problems. Stem cells are cells that have the…
