Although my dad sent over money, it was never enough for the family. Seeing my mother struggle with money, it made me want to do everything I can to give them a better life. Being too young, I knew the only thing I can do help my mother was focus on my academics. After helping my mother with the daily chores, I went straight to the books and I studied intensively. Witnessing her struggle with money, it made me the hardworking person I am today. I knew that if I focused on studying and worked hard enough, it will all be rewarded. It made my mother proud when I got honor roll on every report card and …show more content…

The base of Matsu and Stephen relationship sort of reminds me of a George and Lennie relationship from the “Of Mice and Men Tale”, in which George carries around Lennie like a helpless pet by caring for him, guiding him through life, and bailing him out of the sticky situations he gets himself in.…

When my expulsion appeal failed, I felt like my life was over. Having grown up in a strict Christian family that migrated to The United States from Ukraine, a heavy emphasis was always placed on education. My mom, a single mother, would always tell me how lucky I am to be in The United States and how I can do anything I could possibly want in this country as long as I work hard for it. I took that half-heartedly. While I was always proud of my grades and the work I always put into school, I was a kid that behaved badly and disrespected everyone. However, everything went to a new level in 6th grade when I got expelled from school.…
