The childhood of Jose Rizal can be characterized by his desire to learn. Jose Rizal was not a physically blessed or strong child however, he had a strong will guided and taught by his mother, his first teacher. He learned almost without the use of books. His mother was the one who laid the foundation of his great knowledge achieved in such a short time.
For Rizal, the real mission of education is to elevate the country to the top of glory and to develop people’s holistic formation. As we all know, education is the strong foundation of society and a requirement for social progress. We need a leader like Rizal, who will empower and initiate positive changes and transformations in the society as a whole today and tomorrow.
And by his death, the significance of this martyrdom is that his death sparked open rebellion that finally ended Spanish rule in the country. Rizal is an epitome of good character, high intelligence, and love for his Motherland. He's a good example to be followed.

Rizal observed the behaviors of the Filipinos past and present in his time. He said that the indolence is the effect of the backwardness and troubles of experienced by the country. In the start, he said that the hot climate is a reasonable predisposition for indolence. By this he means that the Europeans have a cold climate thus they need to move around more to compensate with their climate, they also make more food for storage in case a calamity strikes, and that produces more work. The Spaniards labeled us as bums and lazy people because they are egocentric.
That clearly doesn't show that we are lazy. It simply shows that we are contented with our way of living. Carrying on, Rizal said that an illness will worsen if the wrong treatment is given. Before, early Filipinos were already carrying out trades; they were into agriculture and mining. That shows that we are hardworking and independent group of people. We have a society that is clearly showing off progress. When the Spaniards arrived they criticize our way of living. That eventually led to changing the Filipino culture.
Sadly, we have a misfortune past. When the Spaniards arrived, the frequent wars, insurrections, and invasions have brought disorder to the communities, thus resulting to chaos and destruction. Filipino men have been brought to different countries to fight wars for Spain, force labor was implemented to ship yards and natives move to mountains because of the abuses the Spaniards has brought to them. That caused resulted to decrease in Filipino population, neglect of farms and trauma.
Trade has declined, because of pirate attacks and the many restrictions imposed by the government, which gives no aid for crops and farmers. This and the abuse suffered by farmers have caused many to abandon the fields. Businesses were monopolized by government.

Rizal’s reputation as a hero is well earned. He hated how the Spanish treated the natives of the Philippines, whom the Spanish called Indios. The novels and essays he wrote were aimed mostly at Spaniards back in Spain. His objective was to get them to stop the practices of Spanish friars and governors in colonial Philippines. I believe he was convinced that if the Spaniards in Europe knew of the cruelty and injustice going on in their colony for years, that they would finally interfere and stop the merciless brutality that had gone on for centuries. In Spain, Spaniards treated Rizal with respect and admiration, but for some reason the Spaniards in the Philippines were entirely different. They did not hesitate to use torture, terror and execution to keep their Indios under their complete control, and that included controlling Rizal as well.…

Dr. Jose Rizal Mercado y Alonso, or simply Jose Rizal (1861-1896), is unquestionably the greatest hero & martyr of our nation. The day of his birth & the day of his execution are fittingly commemorated by all classes of our people throughout the length & breadth of this country & even by Filipinos & their friends abroad. His name is a byword in every Filipino home while his picture adorns the postage stamp & paper money of widest circulation. No other Filipino hero can surpass Rizal in the number of towns, barrios, & streets named after him; in the number of educational institutions, societies, & trade names that bear his name; in the number of persons, both Filipinos & foreigners, who were named "Rizal" or "Rizalina" because of their parents’ admiration for the Great Malayan; & in the number of laws, Executive Orders & Proclamations of the Chief Executive, & bulletins, memoranda, & circulars of both the bureaus of public & private schools. Who is the Filipino writer & thinker whose teachings & noble thoughts have been frequently invoked & quoted by authors & public speakers on almost all occasions? None but Rizal. And why is this so? Because as biographer Rafael Palma (1) said, "The doctrines of Rizal are not for one epoch but for all epochs. They are as valid today as they were yesterday. It cannot be said that because the political ideals of Rizal have been achieved, because of the change in the institutions, the wisdom of his counsels or the value of his doctrines have ceased to be opportune. They have…

After seeing Dr. Jose Rizal’s life through the movie, I’ve learned so much about him, aside from the common things. At his younger years, Rizal showed so many traits and the most important thing is his nationality. And even though faced with the far more superior Spaniards, Rizal showed no sign of fear. Rizal at his attainment of higher education at Ateneo Municipal even showed that he was far more superior to the Spaniards. He finished a Medical course with “Excellent” remarks. From this his educational achievement, I can really say that even though he was seen as a lower person, he showed that he was far superior and smarter than them. Rizal’s peaceful way of revolt against the Spaniards started when he was in Spain and his friend told him that many bad things have been happening to Philippines, most especially to his hometown, Calamba. He wrote a novel with the main character named Crisostomo Ibarra, personifying himself living in a place somewhat resembling Philippines. It also showed the malfunctions of the Spanish Government administrating Philippines. Having read Rizal’s novel, the Spaniards showed this as treason against their rule in the Philippines. At the time Rizal was convicted of treason, he showed no fear and remained in his peaceful arms against the Spanish Government. He remained strong, in the face of death.…

Rizal as a dedicated citizen who had great hopes to gain independence to our country observed Europe and its whole events including the revolutions inside and outside the continent and its advancement. As an exceptional thinker, Rizal took the opportunity to learn and to understand the conspiracies around him and his observations made him visualize the desire of the oppressed people which he related it to his aggrieved countrymen. He witnessed the cruelties in the 19th Century Europe and saw the hearts of the people on fire. Through these, he valued freedom of thought, equality of men, he inherited nationalism. This period really made tremendous effects to Rizal and to his works such as his famous novels and the Propaganda movement which latter granted our motherland the freedom and independence after his death. Truly, 19th Century Europe served his mind right and he was able to inherit the spirit of this…

I learned from him that the time is very important because, for Rizal he never wasted his time to those unimportant things and that is right. He wrote different poetry’s which are reflected on what things he experienced, feelings that he wanted to write every time he had a free time. He is very dedicated in his study he took a lot of subjects, courses, and philosophies that can make him a brilliant Filipino citizen. In his school life he tried his very best to become an emperor in the class which means the person who had a highest grades in the class. His works and writings can give lessons to us it shows that all Filipino people are not an idiot like what other citizens called to us. It’s an honor for me that Jose Rizal fights our freedom and our right being a Filipino. His works and writings are ways to develop our nationality in accordance with law as exercising the field of learning. His always positive in life whatever happen he considered this only a challenge from God, and he faces it for his family. I learned that if you wish to achieve your goals in life just focus, trust yourself, and be like Rizal who’s always took reading, writing and did a lot of good things in order to be a better man and useful citizens.…

Every hero has its own exemplary deeds but for me, Rizal, is one of the best Heros because of his patriotic services in his country. From his writings to his good communications with other people, foreign or Filipino, he proved to be the best man living in his time and until now. I was so amazed by his bravery that though he already knows that what he plans to do would might lose his head.
