Entrepreneurship Education Case Study
Entrepreneurship education is said to be a globally acknowledged programme of study which seeks to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and motivation to encourage entrepreneurial success in different levels of education (Koko & Ikpesu, 2009). It is the training of individuals to understand and develop key entrepreneurial attributes, skills and behaviours. Skills such as creativity, innovativeness, quick decision-making and risk-taking have being identified as relevant to those who have an interest in starting and growing their own business and are also relevant to all in the workplace and in daily activities even in managing homes Alutu & Uzamere (2011). This according to Labo-Popoola et al, (2009) may be due to the fact that it is the foundation of the whole educational pursuit which is expected to lead to literacy, the enlightenment of the citizens and self-reliance for national development. Primary education in Nigeria was designed to strictly prepare young people for the world of work and higher studies rather than training on self-reliance for human development and national growth as emphasis was laid on subject delivery which will give them adequate knowledge in the next level of the educational system Federal Republic of Nigeria, (2004) and Koko & Ikpesu, (2009). However, Nigerians seem to perform well naturally in entrepreneurship as Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM, 2012) identified Nigeria as one of the most entrepreneurial countries in the world. Despite this recognition, the unemployment rate of Nigerian youth is at 25% which is at an all time high (Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, 2016). These two statements seem to be at disparity but true. There is a gap which the researcher thinks should be filled which can be translated to economic growth and human development. This is in the area of incorporating entrepreneurship education into the primary education system.     In this study, the authors probed how psychological factors affected the choice of entrepreneurship as a means of lifelihood by university graduates in Nigeria. Using questionnaires, completed by 729 males and 371 females, totaling 1100 university graduates of the University of Ibadan, cutting across thirteen (13) faculties, three (3) halls of residence and two (2) libraries, the researchers found that core self-evaluation (CSE) and pre-entrepreneurial factors of fear of failure, criticism, success and change influenced the choice of entrepreneurship by university graduates as a career. The study which focused mainly on Africa, as prior works in this area, had been concentrated on the western countries revealed that people with high core self-evaluation embraces entrepreneurship more than those with low CSE.
