Objectives
1. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of classroom/science safety.

9. Describe the tools used to make metric measurements.

Chapter 2 – The Chemistry of Life

3. Define the term isotope and describe how the isotopes of an element are similar and how they are different.
4. Identify the subatomic particle involved in chemical bonding, and describe the two main types of bonds.
5. Be able to construct/draw a Bohr model of an atom and an ion.
6. Contrast an ion with an atom.
7. Describe how the structure of water, including its polarity, contributes to its unique properties.
8. State the ions that are involved in the formation of acids and bases.
9. Explain where acids, bases, and neutral compounds are found on the pH scale.
10. Describe the importance of a cell’s ability to buffer solutions against rapid changes in pH.
11. Name the elements that carbon bonds with to make up life’s molecules
