Analyze

1. The parts of the author’s argument are related to each other because he shows different examples that are directly related causing an issue for the transformation from high school to college reading. For example, when transitioning from high school to college reading, one lacks close reading skills, fails to focus sharply, fails to imagine the otherness, and fails to have thoughts other than their own thoughts and feelings.
2. In this article, the author assumes that all high school students learn the same way. The author values that in high school one learns general concepts while in college, one has to go into deeper thought. The author is interested in coming up with ways to prepare a student for the transition.
3. Other interpretations of this issue could include the way a student learns. Not all students learn the same way and not all students have the ability to the same amount of intelligence therefore this article isn’t 100 percent accurate for every person transiting from high school to college reading.
4. This article explains the transition from high school to college reading and what can be done to overcome the issue. The author chose this particular approach because he believes in certain ways to understand college material more thoroughly.
5. My classmates and I are entering college reading right now so the transition is beginning to happen so we can all relate to this article.

6. At the end of the article (pg. 6), the author talks about how without education, a democracy cannot function. I feel like that thought came out of nowhere and doesn’t really seem to fit into the article.
