Assessment 1 – Role Play
Instructions:
For this assessment students are allowed to work in small teams to gather information. However the all reports and documents must be prepared independently. For this reason it is expected that each of these documents will be written in their own words.
The presentation may be prepared together however all team members should contribute in some way when it is delivered.

Duration:
Assessment will be handed out on week 1 and should be completed /submitted by week 4.

Scenario:
DKElectronix is a (fictional) medium sized manufacturing company based in the outer suburbs of a large city. The company has been in existence for twenty years, manufacturing small electrical appliances, such as hairdryers, toasters, and electric blankets.
DKElectronix has always had a progressive and dynamic management and has managed to stay in business by being prepared to make changes to the way it operates and to the products it sells.
DKElectronix currently sells its products wholesale to a series of retail outlets that then sell them to the public.
The company has a small IT department, consisting of a manager, two analyst-programmers, a web designer, a network administrator, database administrator, and two help desk staff.
DKElectronix is facing tough times at present with the cost of small electrical appliances dropping due to the rise in imports of cheaper stock as a result of a reduction in sales tax. The company is concerned that if it does not find a way to improve its profitability it may not survive.
Saimma Huzra is the marketing manager of the company and has been floating the idea of introducing some aspects of e-commerce to try to improve the efficiency of the business.
