duty comes first
Duty Comes First Do your duty without his fear
There was once a minister for railways. He had a very good reputation. He was known to be an honest man who always did his duty. One,day he was on his way to an impotant function. He was getting late for it.His car reached a railway crossing. They had to stop there. The gate closed just as they arrived. The driver of the minister's car quickily ran to the gaurd on duty.He said firmly to the gaurd,"The minister is in the car.Raise the gate to let us pass. The minister is an important man.He has a function to attend."The gaurd quietly listened to the driver. He waited for the driver to finish speaking. Then he clearly and politely said,"I am sorry,Sir.I cannot open the gate .The express train is expected any moment and it would be dangerous for both the car and the train." The driver was suprised and angry with the gaurd. He walked back to the car grumbling. The minister asked what had happened. The driver told him what the gaurd had said. The minister got out of the car and started walking towards the gaurd. The gaurd was suprised to see the minister coming but he was not afraid. He knew that he had done his duty. The minister reached the gaurd, smiled and said,"Well done! I will see to it that your dedication to duty is rewarded. The Indian Railways needs more people like you."He patted the gaurd and walked back to the car."The gaurd and I are not unlike each other,"the minister told the driver. "We are both doing our duty."

Flowing orders in today’s ARMY is key to making it last. When orders are not followed it leads to chaos and undisciplined soldiers, the lack of following orders only shows to the outside world that the ARMY as a whole cannot operate as one. There are 3 main topics on why it is very important to follow orders in the army. 1. The act of not following orders could result in injury or death, getting into trouble and eventually getting kicked out of the ARMY, 2. obeying orders will help u stay focused, and 3. It makes you more of a team member.…

An older man sits on the side of the highway holding a sign that says “hungry please help.” A man sitting a few cars ahead of you in a white BMW throws a can of soda at the old man and yells “get a job!” Another car cautiously gives the man some change, and the old man replies by saying “God Bless You!” As I pull forward I tell the man to meet me at the gas station just across the road and I will buy him some dinner. He is extremely grateful and slowly makes his way across the road. We both go in the service center and I allow him to get what he needs. We both pick several items and then I pay for them at the counter. The older man thanked me a thousand times and made his way to front door to sit just outside and enjoy his dinner. I follow him and sat down right next to him on the sidewalk and begin eating my dinner beside my new acquaintance. He began the conversation with telling me his name is Jerry Blackmore. We sat and chatted for about 10 minutes all the while several people we giving both of us dirty looks as they walked in to the service station. Finally Jerry started telling me about his life.…

! During the war between Spain and the United States, it was crucial for leaders to communicate. The president needed a letter sent to a man by the name of Garcia, who lived so far up in the mountains that mail didnʼt travel there and telegraph messages couldnʼt reach him. This letter needed to be brought to Garcia immediately, but no one knew where to find him, or even where to look. Then someone tells the president “thereʼs a man who goes by Rowan, he can deliver the message to Garcia.” And so this man named Rowan came along and accepted the task at hand with no questions. He travelled by boat to the coast of Cuba and from there travelled by foot through the jungles and across the mountains until he ended up on the other side of the island and delivered the message to Garcia. This man not only got the job done but he did so not knowing where to go or who exactly he was looking for. He didnʼt ask for anything in return and he…

It would be overly simplistic to say that military necessity gives armed forces a free hand to take action that would otherwise be impermissible, for it is always balanced against other humanitarian requirements of IHL. There are three constraints upon the free exercise of military necessity. First, any attack must be intended and tend toward the military defeat of the enemy; attacks not so intended cannot be justified by military necessity because they would have no military purpose. Second, even an attack aimed at the military weakening of the enemy must not cause harm to civilians or civilian objects that is excessive in relation to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated. Third, military necessity cannot justify violation…

Failure to Report affects the United States Army and it’s mission. Failure to Report is not clearly definably in violation of any one article. It may be, however, in violation of Article 92. This article covers a failure to obey an order or a regulation. Failure to Report falls into this article simple because the order is given by a senior ranking individual. This can be done orally, which is most common, and verbally, such as a training schedule. By not reporting for duty or accountability you are in direct violation of Article 92 and can receive a summarized, company, or field grade article 15. This will depend on how many offenses you have in the past, your work ethic and the reason you failed to report. Given enough offenses you may be chaptered for patterns of misconduct.…

    Just Following Orders

In my opinion, from the two articles read I do not believe that the sentence of 5 months in prison that Ms Vinson received coincided with her level of involvement. Ms Vinson was the Senior of Corporate Reporting Department; for two years she chooses to continue to misrepresent and inflate figures that were to be used on WorldCom Financial Reports. Perhaps in the beginning it was strongly encouraged to her inflate the figures by Mr. Ebbers so that the Financial Reports would be favorable for WorldCom. And perhaps she convinced herself that she was just following orders and had no choice, but she had a choice and chooses the one most conducive to her career and personal gain. Also, Ms Vinson who chooses the level of misleading figures data as per her own words that she pulled the numbers “out of the air” suggests to me that she was completely on board with what was happening. So in my opinion deserved a stiffer penalty…

There are many reasons that being to work on time is important, both in the civilian world as well as in the military. For civilians and military alike, being to work on time shows responsibility and it also shows that you care about your job. It also shows that you are committed to your job and to those you work with as well as you diligence and dependability as a worker. Arriving to work in a timely manner show your co-workers as well as your boss that you care, and that they, as well as your job, is important to you. Being late for work has many negative impacts on the workplace. Being late forces others to pick up any slack that there is that you should have been doing had you shown up on time. This may cause other worker to be less productive due to a lack of motivation and demoralization. This can set other things behind and disrupt daily activities for a smooth work environment. It also gives the impression that the worker who has failed to show up to work on time doesn’t think his job is very important. Your boss may see you tardiness as a lack of motivation to progress in your occupation and pass over when the time comes for promotion. Motivation is very important because it shows that you want to be in your workplace and you have the drive necessary to progress. Also, on the military side, soldiers can face negative actions under article 86 of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice. This can lead to forfeiture of pay and even separation from the military. Adding to that, being late while you are in a combat situation can lead to missions being pushed back or even injury and death of other soldiers of your unit. The negative consequences on the civilian side are just as bad. You can be charged vacation/ sick days and even be fired for neglecting to be to work in a timely manner. Being late may also cause undue stress due to the fact that you would have to work harder to pick up the slack. Being late not only affects your own workspace, but may affect…

    Military Orders

The issue of following military orders from higher ranking military officials that may be unethical has been a disturbing and controversial issue over many years and decades. Many soldiers and service members in general have been put into a situation where they were given in order, knowing well that the situation isn’t right but cannot disobey. The leader giving the order in all likelihood may threaten or set out stiff punishment on to the individual who did not follow the order or hesitates to follow out on the order. It just isn’t fair that these soldiers and service members are put in these situations and get punished for doing the right thing. When this situation may be in question in a court of law because of the severity of the crime, these soldiers may get in trouble for committing the act even though they were just following orders. This is a big problem in the United States military and it’s not fair that these soldiers and service members, who sacrifice their lives for our freedom, are punished and put in this situation.…

    Place of Duty

It is always important to be where you are supposed to be. In the Army, every leader stresses the fact on being on time or being at the right place or being in the right uniform. So if you have to ask yourself is it important to be where you are told to be? I think most Soldiers and Leaders will tell you that it is very important. It is my responsibility to be where I am supposed to be. It is all about accountability. You have to keep track of your Soldiers. It is my responsibility and my leader's responsibility. They are responsible for my actions. I know that my inability to be at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform, and with the right attitude reflected poorly on my leadership which is something that I never wanted to happen. I also know that I showed a lack of leadership, selfless service, and responsibility, which are three of my army values. I know that I must put my units, and my battle buddies needs before my own in order to accomplish the mission successfully and smoothly. I know that when I failed to show up for duty that I not only showed lack of responsibility but also a lack of discipline.…
