Introduction
What is Diversity Management?
Diversity management is the practice of addressing and supporting multiple lifestyles and personal characteristics within a defined group. Management activities includes educating the group and providing support for the acceptance of and respect for various racial, cultural, societal, geographic, economic and political backgrounds.
Brief history of diversity management:
Diversity management was a concept that was introduced and gained momentum in USA. Benefits of Workplace Diversity
A diverse workplace can be very beneficial to a company, some benefits are as follows:
1. Increased adaptability
With a diverse workplace, consisting of people who have diverse culture, religion etc. there are many minds present with different types of way of thinking and different perspectives. The diverse workplace has what it takes to supply a greater variety of solutions to problems in service, sourcing, and allocation of resources. Employees from diverse backgrounds bring individual talents and experiences in suggesting ideas that are flexible in adapting to the fluctuating markets and customer demands. This improves the overall performance of the company.
2. Broader service range
A diverse collection of skills and experiences (e.g. languages, cultural understanding) allows a company to provide service to customers on a global basis.
3. Variety of viewpoints
A diverse workplace contains employees who have more capability of providing various varieties of viewpoints at a problem then a non-diverse workplace.
