Diversity In The Workplace: A Case Study
Before integration many workplaces were mainly white and male dominated. As the civil rights movement took up stream people pushed for equal access in all areas of American Society. Some of these included entertainment venues, churches, schools, and finally the workplace. Many white males did not see this as a welcome thing, because they wanted to hold on to the status quo.
This status gave them power over woman and minorities in all areas of life. Woman were forced into a caste system that kept them in the home. While many woman were happy with their place, others felt trapped by system that they believed was bias. So to change this system these woman and minority groups forced change within this system. In the work world one group usually does not have all of the answers. So diversity gives the company the tools to find the best and brightest candidates for the position. Diversity can have a different meaning depending on the organization. The company should figure out their own definition of diversity.
Lieberman (2016) said for most organizations it involves creating an inclusive organization where the differences of all people are respected. This can happen through diversity training on the organizational level. In many cases this works out as long as the whole company is on board. There are other benefits to a diverse workplace. If a company is diverse they have access workplace, they have access to diverse market. An example is a company has a large Chinese workforce and they can use this to gain more market share.
When a company has a diverse population they can speak different languages that open up doors. This in turn opens new market share for the company. Which leads to higher profits for the whole company and higher wages for the employees. A diverse workforce has a treasure of new ideas, which can benefit the whole company. When these employees come from different backgrounds, they have different business
