As a team we discussed Robbins and Judge Definition of managing diversity. Robbins and Judge state, “Diversity management makes everyone more aware of and sensitive to the needs and differences of others” (2013). One way to do this is by targeting employment ads based on demographic information. This means specifically placing ad in areas that represent a minority base; whether that is ethnic groups or women. Another way to manage diversity is through an organizational groups and teams. The differences among the team members will allow members to use their strengths to increase performance. As a group we understand that organizations must be able to adapt to changes in the workplace. Organizations must be able to effectively communicate change, mandate any training needed for change, and implement these changes in a timely manner. Organizations need to understand there may be some resistance to change at first, but that could be a good thing. This…

One of the major arguments supporting the implementation of managing diversity programs aimed at achieving EO in employment, and that of the business case. The business case in simple terms is utilising the diversity in an organisations workforce to gain competitive advantage. This notion is reinforced by Strachan et al (2007) which argues MD programs have the ability to increase the chance to attract a wider range of talented employees in a competitive job market, reduce staff turnover, reduce absenteeism, enhanced staff motivation resulting in increased productivity therefore playing a major role in providing a competitive edge for the organisation. This argument is reinforced by Illes (1995) who also argues that MD approach plays a major role in reducing turnover, absenteeism and improves customer service and sales to minority groups (Iles 1995). In terms of providing equality in the workplace, it is argued that to ensure MD initiatives achieve EO within the workplace, it is important that the MD program changes the organisations philosophy and culture to help achieve EO for minorities and women in the workplace. This argument is reinforced by Mighty (1991, p.67) who states that” managing diversity approaches should be a broad organisational change effort that involves changing individuals attitudes and…

Diversity is way more than what meets the eye. Just by looking at this picture most people would say that it is a group of African American women standing together and that no diversity exists. However what most people fail to realize is that diversity surpasses an individual race and skin tone. In this picture you have Jasmine who loves children and is studying to be a child psychologist. Then you have Kayla who enjoys horseback riding and the outside life. Next you have Ayoluwa who wants to be an architect and develop many buildings. Diversity also has a lot to do with an individual’s personality, traits, characteristics, and also behaviors. Providing diversity in the workplace is about embracing everyone’s ideas, thoughts, and ways that they handle different situations. Developing a diverse workplace that focuses on the inclusion of employees is a key component to the success and growth of an organization. There are many reasons as to why a company should inaugurate and push for cultural diversity in the workplace. When a company is diverse, it portrays a sense that the company distinguishes and appreciates the variances that occur in multiple backgrounds and also traits exhibited from others. Having a diverse work environment throughout a company profits from the standpoints of each individual. It is important to remember that having a diverse as well as inclusive atmosphere does not happen in just one day. This is a process and journey that permits for the growth personally by each employee. “Workplace diversity preserves the quality of employees’ relationships with their co-workers and their supervisors." (Mayhew,R., 2012) When the workplace is diverse, there is never a dull moment because bit and pieces are combined from each culture to enhance the organization. Diversity allows individuals to give their input and techniques when it comes to accomplishing task. It functions as a learning experience to the different…
