Technology has evolved into a simple method to express one’s thoughts and feelings; no matter how hurtful, aggressive, and negatively influential it may be. These thoughts are spilled onto a computer or a smart phone and are release out for everyone to see and it challenges traditional and widely shared values. It has given people of all ages the ability to access and share information; whether it is true or false. Along with the false facts that float through the Internet, are the culprits that wrote them. People hide behind the screen of a computer and this gives them confidence to over-expressed their freedom of speech. Along with the vast amount of false information, there is the inability to interpret tone, which leads to lots of miscommunication. Therefore, the invention of the Internet has challenged widely shared values by the ability to quickly spread information and media, the confidence of anonymity, and the reoccurring matter of miscommunication. As media, technology, and culture continue to evolve, the Internet expands with unlimited access to everything: from music to news, and lots of scandal. People everywhere have the ability to post whatever they want online. This challenges widely shared values because the Internet contains a wide and vast database of information and media. This sometimes leads people to believe in different values than they are meant to believe. As children, we grow up to be obedient, use proper language, and we are taught that drinking and drugs are bad. Then, we become teenagers, who become surrounded by media that we did not understand as children. Media that evolve to idolize people who do drugs, drink, dance inappropriately, and have sexual intercourse. This challenges the values our parents or guardians taught us because we are lead to believe that this is how we should act.
