Descriptive Paragraph
David Best Descriptive Paragraph Hunting has been a favorite and exciting hobby of mine all my life, and the excitement never seems to fade away. I hunt for turkey, duck, coyote, deer, hogs, and othersmall game animals. Out of everything I hunt, ducks would have to be at the top of the list. Every opening weekend of duck season, my closest friends and cousins , come camping with my dad and I at the Altamaha River outside of a small town called Uvalda. I have looked forward to this weekend trip ever since I started hunting, and has become a tradition every duck season and will be for many to come. The Friday before opening day, and also the day we head to the river to set up camp, I am always itching throughout the day waiting for my last class to let out so I can load up and head to the river. With my bags packed and shells bought, I am as happy as a kid in a candystore, and so ready to spend some time with family and friends doing one of my favorite hobbies. The water is ten degrees and there’s a small mist, but we gather around the camp fire reminiscing on what might happen on opening day. The sun sinks slowly below the horizon bringing in the cold temperatures. My cousin and I know we are going to be cold in our little tent that we always share. We constantly remind each other that it’s worth it.Morning can’t come soon enough. I crawl out of my sleeping bag two hours before day break and head for the fire to warmup before packing up and putting on my waders. We get the tents and all packed up, and grab our guns, shells, and calls and head to the water. We break the ice as we walk into the freezing cold water. As my best friend and I ease our way to our side of the river , we can hear the ducks singing as they come down the stream. Once we get to our spot we start hitting the calls trying our hardest to call them our way. They start coming our way at around 70 mph heading straight for the water. We pick up or guns and go to blasting,

It’s November, so that means its deer season. Every year deer season starts on the second weekend of November and last for ten days. I get really excited around August because during this time my family and I start exploring the woods looking for signs of deer. We look for signs like scrapes on trees, footprints, and tall grass that looks like it has been laid on and flattened. We set salt blocks out around our tree stands and set our cameras out hoping to catch a picture of a big buck. After we finish all the preparing we wait until the first week of November. During the first week of November we go back to our stands, check the salt blocks, set new blocks out, and grab our cameras to take back home. Once we get home we look at the pictures…

Camping and being in the outdoors has been a significant part of my life for the last eight years. As a child, I never enjoyed it much. Three years ago, my family along with four other families decided to take a trip to Glacier National Park. The sky-piercing mountains and the beautiful lakes urged me to explore the outdoors more. From hiking through the mountainous trails to driving up the mountains through the Going-to-the-Sun road, I finally began to realize the relief and soothing sense that nature had to offer. Despite the love I finally found in the outdoors, I was never the dedicated and…

We have many means of killing a turkey … bows, arrows of different kinds steel broadheads, blunt practice arrows, and useless cross-bow bolts … hatchets, throwing knives, “wrist-rockets,” a kind of sling-shot, and stones. As I was running up the driveway I was not thinking at all, so when I burst into my room I grabbed…

Not only is hunting an exhilarating experience but so is the feeling of being surrounded by wilderness. During winter times since I was 12 years old, my father would take me out on long drives in the middle of winter to hunting sites just outside of Edmonton. What made the drive not seem so long was the scenic route we would always take. Every once in a while I would see little white rabbits hopping around and leaving miniature footprints all in the snow next to the road. Further down the road we would pass a fairly big hill that had two pine trees at the top of it. I always wondered how long they had been there considering the fact that they were over thirty feet high. Finally we would get to the hunting ground and make are way down to a little patch of brush where we would crouch and wait for the deer to pass by. The feeling of the cold snow crunching under my boots, the frost covered branches of the bush we were nestled under, and all the little footprints that surrounded us gave me a feeling of unity with nature. After hiding in our spots for a long while, usually until my feet and toes were completely frozen it seemed, my father would whisper “Here comes one right now”. A few moments later I’d hear a loud bang and we’d be back on the road with our trophy and bragging rights. We have carried on this tradition every…

Two docks filled with every type of boat imaginable, canoe, kayak, row boat, paddle boat, and on. Smiling, warm water ripples as my toes dip in; my feet are greeted with the tickle of the small fish swimming right at the edge of the dock. Through the years, the swim to the raft on Sugar Maple Lake becomes shorter and shallower; and once on, my cool skin meets scorching wooden planks that have been laid out through the first months of summer. Chilly water is splashed up onto the raft as my grandfather’s boat pulls near, tube attached to the back. In the beginning, the…

An apartment is a self contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building. Apartments may be owned (by an owner/occupier) or rented (by tenants). My first apartment was located in Brooklyn in the Flatbush section. It was a small but very conveniently located third floor apartment in a elevator building. The building only had five floors with a see through glass lobby entrance. The building had a doorman that worked from four until midnight. He was a very pleasant middle aged gentleman with a carribean accent. The lobby had a sunken waiting area with black leather sofa and arm chairs that looked like they were bought in the 1960`s, but well maintained. When you came into the building in the evening you could smell the strong scents of all types of seasoning especially curry due to the Indian family living near the elevator. When riding the elevator up to my apartment it would shake from side to side and occasionally would hold someone captive until the elevator repairman came to get them out. My apartment was located on the third floor. It had a small foyer with a small closet to the left, a living room that measured 11 feet by 17 feet . It also had a very small kitchen that only one person could cook in at a time otherwise you would be constantly bumping into the other cook. Next to the small kitchen was a half size bathroom whose vanity mirror would steam up due to not having any windows or a proper working ventilation duct. When you came out the bathroom to your right was a small bedroom that you could only get a minimal amount of furniture in. Basically this apartment was in the shape of a box that was sectioned off into four areas. To make it into a home I started with the living room, I painted the walls chocolate brown and bought a sofa to match. The sofa was made of a furry material so I bought an orange chaise lounge to go with the sofa. I also bought earth tone curtains to mellow out the loud look of the orange chaise. I placed the orange chaise…

Like many other nights; it is late and I am tired, leaving the bar after my shift and driving home. It must be close to 4o’clock in the morning now; the roads are covered in snow like a cozy white blanket on a cold black night. I seem to be alone on this two lane highway; my headlights are the only ones shining, like two beckons in a lighthouse searching for others in the dark. The roads have just been plowed, very little is on the pavement but the snow is falling fast, within minutes the road will be covered once again and the lines will be impossible to see. I will have to try to make the drive home from memory, exhausted, with almost no visibility.…

I push off from the shore and hop into the raft as I feel my shoe drag in the cold water and soak my sock. As I looked around I noticed that the scenery between in the valley was like that off of a postcard, cloudless blue sky, plant and wild life everywhere, it was amazing. Our guide, a short medium build size man with black hair, explained the procedures and rules to us as we lazily drifted down the calm of the river for the next fifteen minutes. We were told we were going to be shooting through 3 major falls, between eight and twelve feet high, throughout our trip, which lasted the entire day, and in between we would be having our rest periods and many smaller falls. There were also three other families with us on our little venture along the white water in other rafts. As we drifted along, we talked with our guide to get to know him a little better and enjoyed the scenery, which stayed as beautiful throughout the trip. Our guide told us that we would be starting off our trip with one of our first major falls and that we would be approaching very soon. Before we rounded the bend to the falls, everything was silent except for the roar of the waterfall a head, its thunder echoing off of the steep walls that surrounded us; this was going to be fun.…
