Dell Inc. is an American multinational information technology company. The company provides the technology solutions, services and support for their customers (Dell, 2011). In today’s economic business environment, several methods and techniques of the forecasting are used by Dell Company. For instance, mainly Dell uses the Delphi technique to do forecasting. In addition, this panel of experts goes through different series of rounds to forecast the demand of company. Along with this, for the purpose of demand forecasting of the product/service of the company, the appointed panel of experts produce and create important and significant information from the two resources effectively. “A sales forecast is a prediction of sales under a given set of conditions” (Horngren et al. 2008, p. 303). The forecast is based on past sales performance and an analysis of expected market conditions. A company’s sales budget depends entirely on sales reforecast (Horngren et al., 2008). If forecasts aren’t accurate, then inventory levels will be too high or too low, staffing plans will be off, and credibility with customers, suppliers, and investors will wear away. These are just a few of the many risks associated with forecasting - financial risks, production risks, and resource risks also exist.…

For this project I created a twelve month forecast for Total Vehicle Sales in the United States using four different methods. These four techniques are called exponential smoothing, decomposition, ARIMA, and multiple regression. To do so I picked one dependent (Y) variable along with two independent (X) variables and collected 80 monthly observations for each variable. This historical data allowed me to create four different forecasting models which predict future Vehicle Sales with low risk of error. The best model according to the lowest error measures was winter’s exponential smoothing method because it had the lowest MAPE along with the lowest RMSE for the fit period as well as the forecast period.…
