1.0 Introduction
1.1 Project Background

The purpose of this thesis topic was to ascertain whether or not decisions about sound career choice had an impact on the quality of life. Most people agree that career satisfaction comes from a balance between the chosen vocation and a meaning and opportunity for authentic existence. As most people spend the majority of their time and life at work it is natural for them to identify with or feel identified by the work they do, and therefore the positive and negative feelings about their vocation has the potential to impact upon their well being or sense of self worth. However factors and circumstances change during a lifetime and therefore at different times, people have varying perceptions about what quality of life means to them and it is for this reason that most people change their career direction at least three times in their working life. For the purposes of this thesis however the present point in time has been assessed, as to whether or not the current vocation or career choice has impacted on the individual’s sense or perception of quality of life.

1.2 Objectives

The objectives of this thesis are:
* To understand the processes behind decision making;
* To discover the importance of factors influencing career choice; * To find out whether or not career choice is seen as important in determining the quality of life; * To understand what factors are important for achieving quality of life; * To find out if the chosen vocation or career has an impact on how the individual views his/her quality of life; * To determine a positive or negative correlation between career choice and quality of life.

1.3 Scope
