I considered it as reaching my academic goals thanks to its own programs. It can help me gain more insight into English skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, etc. If I pass my coursework I will qualify to move up to English 101 or 101 plus. It means step by step to help me continue towards my college goals. On the other hand, it also helps me to be more confident and very open about asking others for help when I can’t find the information or the resources which I need for myself in order to make my learning improve. Furthermore, I am grateful for this program because this is a course only open for students at Highline and…

Goals can be personal or professional, long-term or short-term, but they help us track our course and stay on target for our future endeavors. Securing the image you see for your future requires straightforward ideas, dedication, and a passion to carry you through to the end. A goal is an end to which you direct your efforts. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2011, “Glossary”). The objectives desired by each individual acts as a compass, guiding each of us to ultimately build upon our blue print for life.…

The First Year Learning goals are an effective way to strengthen my reading and writing. The goals which helped me make progress towards becoming a successful writer are Goal#5 and 6. Firstly, goal#6 is “to help students think critically about academic discourse communities as contact zones where different cultures both connect and come into conflict.” This goal is very descriptive in explaining what to write or read about a discourse…

Throughout the course of the first quarter, I realized that sophomore year is very different from freshman year. There is more time commitment, more effort, and overall more experience in learning new materials. In English during the first quarter I obtained three learning goals through specific activities. The first learning goal that I grew was acquiring and employing new vocabulary to further understandings of core texts. The activity that helped me grow this learning goal was the literary terms quiz a few weeks ago. Studying for that quiz made me learn poetic devices and literary analysis much easier to comprehend and learn throughout Othello and made reading the AP World History textbook more enjoyable by pointing out literary terms that even show up in boring textbooks. This learning helped me grow a Habit of the Mind which is persisting. This was significant because though Othello may be interesting enough, using these literary analysis terms while reading my AP textbook and even the Chemistry textbook, helped me improve my English skill while learning to persisting in reading the history textbook assignments that are due.…

Success is a process of changeling obstacles. In order to succeed you must overcome these obstacles. Motivation is the driving force behind success, it is the entity that makes people do things they don’t want to. Studying is key to success, there is a high correlation between studying and success. Serval studying skills such as pre-test taking and taking clearer notes can put you on course with your goals. I’ve learned that success is not something defined by others it depend only on you and your goals. This is important because success should only rely on yourself and not others. This year I plan on tackling success by means of motivating myself and studying a lot. I intend to complete the goals I set and succeed in my…

My goals for English 101 is specifically to focus on my assignments and essays on a higher academic level; for example compose a essay with correct punctuation, avoid fragment errors, and acknowledge different writing techniques. I find it helpful when I prioritize my goals for the English course, initially to pass this class with a GPA of 3.4 or higher, a short-term goal that I tend to complete is improve on my writing tactics. This goal will teach me methods of formatting by following a set of grammar rules that create an exemplary piece of writing. I started to pinpoint my goals in order to fulfill my academic objectives; it keeps me organized and well aware of my prerequisite courses. Once I meet my academic requirements, I plan to transfer to UMSL (University of Missouri –St. Louis) to pursue my career in criminology and complete my education with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.…

As a freshman in college, many of the subjects I’ve taken up in the first semester are not new to me. I took Algebra, Biology, and even Filipino, but my English class is of an entirely different context. College English for me is unfamiliar. For example, I was never required to write essays on a weekly basis and be graded for it. I always took the kind of English class that we always just used to talk about novels. Nevertheless, throughout the first semester, I’ve learned a lot from my English class specifically, the noteworthiness of a scratch paper in essay writing, organizing my thoughts, and writing from the heart, rather than writing to pass.…

My personal goal for this class is to receive a minimum grade of 80% or a B. English isn't my best subject, but I hope what I learn in this class will help me appreciate literature more than before. To achieve my goal, I will need to study and give my full effort. You only get out what you put in, to me this means I need to put in 100% of what I can and only then I'll achieve excellence. One of my weakest points in English is reading. I've never been fond of reading; reading has always been my lowest score on the ACT. I will have trouble with reading but I hope after this course is finished, I can look at literature in another way rather than seeing it as a bunch of random words on a page of a novel. Another problem I will encounter is my access to a computer out of school. I'm not gifted with having a computer at my house, so I will have to be responsible and use my time wisely. I'll have to work on my assignments in the library on my own time and study independently for a certain amount of hours out of class. As my teacher, I expect you to give me personal help whenever I have a question, or am in need of your assistance. It'll be hard because of the other students that occupy your class, but if I'm really unsure or confused on a topic, I am sure to let you know through email or during a…
