Darden Supply Chain Case Study
Darden is known to have four major types of their supply chain for all of their canned food, sea food, small ware and also fresh foods which are of great help to the company. Darden usually distributes small ware directly which is of great advantage to them since it helps them to lower down the cost that they incur while they ship small items like plates napkins because they usually have a similar manufacturing area. It also helps the company in aligning all their main restaurants together. This makes it easier for the company to distribute small ware of the same quality to all their restaurants.

Some of them include complexity, it can get expensive for them to ship, communication is also another issue. Supply chains basically have a few drawbacks either internally or from external sources. Due to its size, this makes its supply chain to be very complex. Also they have different suppliers from different countries. This is a clear indication that Darden has both by air and by land delivery methods to get all the products they need and get them in a timely fashion. This affects them economically as a lot of their products have the possibility to get lost, get old or even become unusable. There is also more expenditures incurred when they fly most of their products from overseas to United States and then it takes more time to get them to their …show more content…
It is clear that Darden’s chains of supply are different from those that are used within the automobile industry. There has been development of more innovative and also new supply chains within the automobile industry which involve a development that is vendor managed, most of the suppliers hold the title of the main sections un-till delivery is made within the line of assembly of the products. The difference within these types of business is majorly involved where Darden have created four main supply chains that are unique and odd which are usually economical and also easier to manage.
