When I saw the title, Blink: the power of thinking without thinking, I have decided in a blink of an eye that I have to read the book. And it was the best thing to do.…
My best friend Sedona Love taught me something this year, something I would never have had seen with my own two eyes until she showed me. She taught me that when I am having trouble at home or life isn’t treating me so well, that she will always be there to listen and give their best input. She may sometimes be sarcastic, silly, goofy, mean, crazy, sometimes plain out embarrassing, and even care too much, but in the long run she is always going to be there to listen and not talk, hear without judging, and be there with nothing in return. In class sometimes she can be pretty critical but I know that’s just how our relationship works. I may get called silly, stupid, a dumb blonde, an idiot, but when I need my best friend the most I know that she will be there for me. When I needed a shoulder to cry on or when I needed a hug the most she was always there for me, when I felt there was no sense in life she showed me there was way more to life than I thought. A couple of weeks ago I went into severe anaphylactic shock and she was right there, she brought me my backpack and the things I needed most at the time. She stood up for me when my so called friends were talking behind my back not really knowing what was going on. She was also the only one who cared enough to call me and see how I was doing, she put everything aside just so she could make sure that I was okay. Not…

The thing that I fear the most is losing you. That is why this is the most difficult thing I have had to say, but I don’t want to miss out on what could have been. Ever since the day I met you in Anatomy lab I knew I wanted to be with you. Are friendship blossomed and we were soon described as the old married couple. Every time we speak my heart fills with joy. Every time I see you, I see the most beautiful women I have ever met. I find myself smiling because I cannot believe I even have the chance to be in your presence. I have been asked many times to describe the girl of my dreams and that question was unable to be answered until I met you. We have been friends for a short time, but my feelings have grown. Every time we talk on the…
She is from Portugal and knew very little English. We help each other with our English and class works. While the ESL class was slowly helping me with my English, I exile in math since math didn’t need a language to understand. I was top of the class for my math skill and that made me felt so proud. The teacher called out my name to get a prize for my hundred on my minute math. I took that opportunity to make new friends with my prize. For once, I felt like I belong there with my classmates. Valentine came around and I got gift cards and candy from everyone in class. It was necessary to bring everyone in class a card but it still made me feel happy to see my name written on the card from someone…
She’s clever, hilarious, generous, kind, loving, intelligent, and has a strong moral compass. When I look at her, I see hope. Ultimately I see hope for me. While I often contemplate with envy the image of perfection I see in her, I have come to realize that her success story could be mine as well. She gives me an ideal to strive for. Unlike some role models, she is real, I know her well, and we have a shared history. I see her human flaws along with her perfection. In this way her level of success is not some unattainable ideal, but something that I know I have the ability to reach. Her success motivates me to work through my own issues in a way that other people’s success cannot.…
The Jaguar Smile: A Nicaraguan Journey written by Salman Rushdie, is a non-fiction book that gives the reader insight to the internal turmoil taking place in the nation of Nicaragua. Salman Rushdie is a British-Indian novelist who gained his fame for his fantastical novels about the post-colonial relationship between cultures of the East and West. Rushdie became interested in Nicaraguan affairs when the Regan administration started its “war” against Nicaragua. “I was myself the child of a successful revolt against a great power, my consciousness the product of the triumph of the Indian Revolution” (p.4). Rushdie made his trip to Nicaragua in July of 1986. He came to know a wide range of people, from the President to the everyday citizens. His perceptions were always heightened by his sensitivity and his unique flair for language. “I did not go to Nicaragua intending to write a book, or, indeed, to write at all; but my encounter with the place affected me so deeply that in the end I had no choice” (p.5). In this book Rushdie brings us the true Nicaragua where nothing is simple, everything is contested, and life-or-death struggles are an everyday occurrence.…

However, I knew that if I love someone, I would become blind. Because I could divide that "what is right" and "What is wrong" I love what she loves. My friends advised me that "she isn't a perfect girl" however, I can feel her charisma, as sad as her long legs, and her long hair looks like sad lyrics. Her heart is like white paper. When she doesn't speak, she is thinking. When she is talkative, she is a magician of language. Therefore, we met several times, and he became my Girlfriend.…
The toy I love the most is my Barbie doll. My father gifted me a Barbie when I was four years old, for my birthday. Oh! What a lovely gift and I had a lovely birthday party too. Since then I stopped sleeping with my parents. I and my doll slept in my room. Until then I was scared to sleep alone. Now I have a friend. The only time I leave her is when I go to school. My Barbie has five dresses – a party wear, a night suit, a summer wear, a woolen winter wear and a business suit. I can also do my Barbie’s hair. There are many colorful clips for my Barbie. Her hair is long. There is a special smoothening comb. When I comb it doesn’t pain for her. All the dresses have matching shoes too. I like her party shoes as it looks like glass and it is similar to that of Cinderella. All my friends like my Barbie. She is very delicate. When I put her on my bed she closes her eyes. When I pick her up she opens it. So we both sleep together and wake up together. I love my doll. I promised her that we will be the best friends forever (BFF).…
A smile is a facial expression formed by flexing the muscles near both ends of the mouth and by flexing muscles throughout the mouth.[1] Some smiles include contraction of the muscles at the corner of the eyes (see 'Duchenne Smiling' below). Among humans, it is an expression denoting pleasure, sociability, happiness, or amusement. This is not to be confused with a similar but usually involuntary expression of anxiety known as a grimace. Smiling is something that is understood by everyone despite culture, race, or religion; it is internationally known. Cross-cultural studies have shown that smiling is a means of communication throughout the world.[2] But there are large differences between different cultures. A smile can also be spontaneous or artificial.…
Smiling is contagious. One of my goals every day is to smile, whether to myself or to someone else, even a complete stranger. I have a neighbor, an elderly Chinese woman, I have no clue as to what her name is, yet every day when I leave my house I see her on her morning walk and we smile to each other. I once was on the W-line bus on my way to campus and I smiled to a person sitting across from me. I later realized the person was in one of my classes and I introduced myself as the guy that smiled to her on the bus. This person and I have become the closest of friends. I recently had a friend pass away, Johnny Napier, and at his funeral his parents had put up his senior portrait from high school. This was no ordinary senior portrait, however; it was Johnny smiling with a set of joke teeth in his mouth. Johnny's parents knew it was the way Johnny would have wanted us to remember him because he had the power to bring a smile to the faces of his family and friends.…
Now I want to tell you a few words about myself. I am 168 sm tall a nice-looking girl with a fair complexion. As for my figure, in my view I am not fat, but I am exceedingly well-fed. My face is oval, I have green, warm eyes and regular, large features. My eyebrows are arched and bushy and my hair is brown, waved and luxuriant. I have got even teeth, a round chin, a broad, open forehead and curving eyelashes. I am a Sagittarius by a horoscope. Frankly speaking, I trust others easily and expect in turn to be trusted. I like exchanging ideas and see the bright side of things. Generally speaking, I am imaginative, creative, and well-read. But I can be hot-headed and cruel with enemies. Apparently, I am a gambler at heart and risky. My parents believe that I am individualistic, very shy and intelligent. From their point of view I am a calm and composed person. But they also think that I can be very idle and irresponsible, because I don’t always help with the household chores. As for my teachers, they think that I am a hardworking, quick on the uptake, average, funny student. They tell me that I seem to be really trying my best to finish my school work and maintain my good grades. Unfortunately, sometimes I don’t pass all my work in on time, and to be quite honest, my teachers think that I am a bit lazy person. And they don’t think I work as hard as I am capable of. My friends think of me as a ball of fire, cheerful and a mixed up person, because I love sports, serials, different kinds of books, films and I am fond of almost everything which connect with mysticism. All in all, just talking and walking with my friends makes me very happy. Some of my friends think that sometimes I am a mean person and a bore. I fully agree with the fact that usually I can me an awful bore but I don’t know why they are sure that I am a mean person. I am a person with strong morals who desires to do the right thing to the entire humanity. As for my plans about my future,…
