Title Assessing Process Management Capability: Case Study of Dalla Shipyard in Myanmar

ABSTRACT

This study will be conduct to assess and determine the level of management capability of Dalla shipyard and to evaluate the specific process management to reengineer for improvement in process management capability of Dalla shipyard. This case study will be conducted at Dalla Shipyard, Dalla Township, Yangon Region, Myanmar from Oct to Dec 2013. In this study, Dalla shipyard under IWT will be selected as case shipyard. Process Classification Framework (PCF) derived from American Productivity and Quality Center (APQC) will be used to assess the level of management capability of case shipyard. Data will be collected by individual interview, documentary information and direct observation. All interview data will be assessed and evaluated in relation to available documentary information and direct observation. By assessing the level of management capability, this study will provide the information to determine the specific processes to reengineer and propose appropriate model to improve performance management capability of Dalla shipyard leading to its estimated goal.

Re engineering is like you need change in manpower behavior, thinking culture of company,etc. Business Process Reengineering is the analysis and design of workflows and processes within an organization. A business process is a set of logically related tasks performed to achieve a defined business outcome. Re-engineering is the basis for many recent developments in management. The cross-functional team, for example, has become popular because of the desire to re-engineer separate functional tasks into complete cross-functional processes.[citation needed] Also, many recent management information systems developments aim to integrate a wide number of business functions. Enterprise resource planning, supply chain management, knowledge management systems, groupware and collaborative systems, Human Resource Management Systems and customer relationship management. Business Process Reengineering is also known as Business Process Redesign, Business Transformation, or Business Process Change Management. Business process reengineering (BPR) began as a private sector technique to help organizations fundamentally rethink how they do their work in order to dramatically improve customer service, cut operational costs, and become world-class competitors. A key stimulus for reengineering has been the continuing development and deployment of sophisticated information systems and networks. Leading organizations are becoming bolder in using this technology to support innovative business processes, rather than refining current ways of doing work.
