Aside from medicine, I have a deep passion for soccer. I grew up playing soccer with my friends in the streets of Lebanon where regardless of one’s religion, socioeconomic status, or education level everyone has one thing in common: their passion for soccer. As a junior in high school, I developed a proposal to my school board with the purpose of establishing a team at our school and playing organized tournaments with other local schools. Through this sport, I learned the essence of teamwork and collaboration. Being the captain of the soccer team highlighted the importance of effective communication and positive vibes between the whole team. My self-esteem increased as I developed my listening skills and became a leader everyone can confidently rely on.

Following undergrad, I was unable to matriculate because of financial constraints. We were recent immigrants, and as an international student, financial aid was unavailable. To prepare financially for medical school prior to reapplication, I took a circuitous route that would also further my science and patient-care interests. After undergrad, I secured funding for a master's in mechanical engineering through the Department of Ophthalmology to work with low-vision patients and develop vision aids. By performing well, I maintained funding throughout the program. Since graduation, I have been working in PwC’s consulting practice, gaining broad exposure to industries like retail and foodservice. Though consulting demanded long hours, I remained…

I’ve done also done volunteer work in a Geriatric setting, at the St. Benedict nursing home in St. Cloud. My plans following high school are to attend the University of Minnesota in the College of Biological Sciences. My hopes are to complete my undergraduate in there in the Pre-Medicine program, attend graduate school, and specialize in a currently undecided field of…

Along with administering health care, my main goal for working in this setting is to be a positive influence in students’ lives and give back to the community by making the athletes that I serve into leaders. Being a leader and equipping others with the ability to become leaders is a passion of mine. What many people fail to notice is that this is a crucial time for many students as they attempt to grow into adults and not all coaches and athletic trainers seize the moment to support them along their journey. I want to be able to make an impact on students’ lives and change their…

My desire to study sport began as a result of my fascination with the variety of sports and the different training styles they use, yet for the same desired outcome - to win. Whilst I attended primary school, I was part of the football team, which competed regularly in a mini-league style competition with surrounding schools in the area. When I progressed to secondary school, I was exposed to a greater variety of sports and decided that I would join the Clydesdale Rowing Club. During my time with this club, my growing desire to understand various sports began to develop further. I quickly appreciated that knowledge as well as physical ability and team co-operation contributed to the success in any sport. I also built strong bonds and relationships with friends and the coaches, as well as spectators who often came to watch us on the River Clyde. I also helped younger rowers and beginning rowers to set up equipment and take part in the sport. As I enjoyed working with others, I undertook a Sports Leadership course. This course taught me how to effectively work with others to train classes and how to work with various groups of people including younger children and those with mental disabilities. The sport leadership course allowed me to develop as a person and also to understand the importance of key skill like time keeping, co-operation and organisation. I then went on to volunteer at the Glasgow Youth Games this year, refereeing and coaching badminton for younger children. This was a thoroughly enjoyable…

“Accounting is like a puzzle.” You have to analyze every aspect of a job before making a decision. My first accounting professor told me if you are good at problem solving, you can be great at accounting. It was hard to find his reasoning at first, but after choosing to take his accounting course, I realized what he meant. You need logic; everything has a set direction and technique. Each piece of an accounting job is placed carefully and has a high significance amongst its environment. You need analytical skills. Take apart every piece of information you receive on a job and use it to make your own conclusions in order to put all the pieces back together in a form that makes sense.…
