College Admissions Essay: Middle School
Middle school was the time of finding new friends and getting involved in school activities. People around me were making new friends and leaving their old ones and started joining different sport teams. In eighth grade my friend group was separating into their own groups, they started fighting and just did not like each other anymore. I had to make a choice of which friends that I would stand beside, in making this decision I was scared that the other friend group wouldn’t talk to me. Choosing which friend group to go along with was very difficult. On the first day of eighth grade I was very anxious to see what friends I would have in class. In science, I had about two friends in class that I knew, Sammy and Lou, and there was another girl that Sammy knew so we all sat together. When I went to seminar I saw the girl so I sat next her and learned her name was Carla. The two of us had a lot in common from music to favorite TV shows. A couple months later in science, we were put into different groups and I sat with Sammy and Lou sat Carla. Lou would always complain about her, about how loud and rude she was. From a young age we’re asked what we want to be when we grow up, never how we expect to become when we grow up. I was well aware of what I wanted to become, but not sure how to get there until I started high school when my counselor explained to me the importance of having a full portfolio with a wide range of extracurricular activities. Then it became clear to me, I needed extracurricular activities to become who I wished to be. It was the craziest out of all of them. This was the year that we had a new girl come to school, her name was Kirsten. It was the fourth day of school and she was doing fine, then everyone started to hate her, and then would be really mean. She seemed to be cool, I don't know why people didn't like her. Me and my best friend were called into the office and asked to be friends with her, and tell them what the other people are doing her, like being mean or talking bad about her. The experience was the worst at first because if you're friends with her you were cool or talk to. That was hard for me because I have a lot of friends at St. Peters, and I didn't want to not be their friend, but now that I think about it they weren't real friends. So I made the choice to be friends with her and not listen to everyone…
