Class Pres.
As the class of 2017 we are the start of a new tree or a generation. We are the leaves of the tree. The trunk is our foundation who are our teachers or parents. And the branches of our new tree is the impact we have on society. Even though we are just one class in a billion of 2017 classes we can make a difference. We can become those leaders. We can make the next year of homecoming one no one will ever forget. We can set a new tradition for our school. A leader is a problem solver, not a finger pointer. A leader inspires others to do their best, not teach them the wrong and a leader does not tell people how to do something but simply shows them how they have done it. All of these qualities falls under leadership. The definition of leadership is “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task” now you can’t tell me Rebecca Rowland does not have those qualities. I bet she has helped every single one of us in here in some way or another. She is the person we need as our leader, as our class president. She is the person who, out of all of us, deserves to be the president the most. Academically she is outstanding! Socially she is the bomb! She gets along great with almost every one she meets. Rebecca L. Rowland should be, and needs to be your new 2013-2014 class

Throughout my high school years, I maintained various leadership roles. The first of which was serving as a section leader in the marching band for three years. As a section leader, I was the example of how the section should act, present, and conduct them. I was also the captain of the golf and tennis teams, first leading by examples through my actions and then through my playing skills. At my home church, I am the Youth Director providing an example of how to live as a young Christian despite the temptation of peer pressure. While here at JMU, I am currently serving as a mentor at the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Boys and Girls Club to disadvantaged to youth. Just furthering my education beyond high school is the primary and first example of leadership. The kids at the club can look to me and see that I was once just like them but I’ve pushed through and maybe they can…

As a result, homecoming court was a diverse group of individuals ranging from the first chair in orchestra to a special needs child to a founder of an SAT Prep Club. The local news network Herald spotlighted our event, because of the new function of homecoming court, resulting a special needs student who won homecoming king. I believe that my ingenuity to learn from others perspective, and be an open minded individual granted me the opportunity to understand that there was a bigger issue: people felt that the past homecoming court nomination procedure was shallow. At the brink of falling into the abyss, I nearly quitted leadership because of students who became unfavorable of me. However, I chose not to quit because I knew my purpose in serving my community and of being a servant leader. I was bold and took initiative, regardless of any leadership role. I learned doing what is best for my community, school, and institution, was all that mattered, not my social status within a class…

A leader is someone who inspires people, who can be clutch as a forerunner to get started on a way of thinking; or sometimes a leader is the fearless one who steps in a place no one has dared to and when they do, they do so without remorse. A leader doesn’t look back at what has passed, but instead looks ahead at what’s to come. A leader is honest, caring and has integrity. A leader confronts challenges and does not let the voice of haters or malicious people bring them down. A great leader, not just a leader can do all of these things and when they are pushed down they can get back up and keep going like no one has touched them. A leader, who fits this description in my eyes, is Sarah Palin.…

A self-employed business man once said, “The best example of leadership is leading by example” (Jerry McClain). He describes a true leader, a pioneer whose morals and selflessness guide her to guide others. She is an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for all to follow. I share this passion for helping and guiding by example, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I would seek to better the community just as I do every day inside and outside of the classroom.…

Strong leadership within a school is necessary however with the increased support of the common core state standards, teachers are expected to take on a role that goes above and beyond the classroom. The school this author teaches in is predominately conventional. Conventional schools are easily recognized because little communication exists between staff and leadership (Hawkins, 2012). The principal is a strong leader with strong ideas and not very approachable when others have ideas that could ultimately help the children. Heck (2010) claims school leadership exerts a measurable, albeit indirect effect on student learning. When a principal is not willing to share that leadership all stakeholders will suffer, including the students. The principal has poor communication skills. There has not been a faculty meeting in the last three months leaving the staff wondering what is going on and afraid to ask because she may not be in the mood to discuss any situation. The school does not…

I wasn’t born a leader. No tragic event made me open my eyes to become a leader. In actuality, my mother enrolled me into an all-female women’s empowerment leadership program without my consent. I was not insecure, my grades were superb; I was however, an active follower of the most uninfluential group of friends every parent dreads. Being a follower instead of a leader is a very childlike trait. It takes an adult, woman or man, to step up and take charge in doing what they know is best for themselves and those who follow. When I’m not being a quirky goofball Emma Jean Bouie, I’m being sophisticated, empowered woman little miss Nadia Moffet. Ever since I met Nadia Moffet, C.E.O of The Queens Foundation and Miss North Carolina 2010, she has instilled something spiritually and mentally inside of me that has helped shape the young leader I am today. From the age of 13, I was no longer just Emma Jean Bouie, I slowly became, “a beautiful, powerful and strong beyond measure woman.’…

The superintendent and school board hiring of a principal is the ultimate judge of that individual’s ability to adequately serve as the leader in a particular school. According to Marques (2013), “Perceptions of employees about the qualities they expect from their leaders have undergone a significant change”. The superintendent and school board must have a clear understanding of what characteristics are associated with a principal who will serve as the instructional leader as well as responsible for managing the operational component of the school. The superintendent and his/her committee should examine and be familiar with the following leader keys standards and knowledgeable…

As a child growing up, I've always aspired to reach every goal that I had, and speak my mind when I have something that is needed to be said. Within the past two to three years I have learned to grow out of my shell and speak up with love, against hatred. But I've come to realize that leaders that we have in our country are a concern to me and to many other children who are growing up in the United States. Under the current administration, I have began to learn what its like to be a leader and what to do and what not to do. President Trump and his administration, more specifically Betsy DeVos, have concerned many students and parents around the country. DeVos, her ideas for Education reform, and her (and Trump's) lack of leadership among our country have become a concern for many teens and young adults in America.…

At the most rudimentary level, a leader is someone who leads other. But what makes someone a leader? What is it about being a leader that some people understand and use to their advantage? What can you do to be a leader? A leader is a person who has a vision, a drive and a commitment to achieve that vision, and the skills to make it happen. These leadership traits are broken down further into seven beneficial habits in Sean Covey’s book “The 7 Habits of highly Effective Teens” and the fundamental base of leadership found in the 40 developmental assets. The main things that made Douglas a highly effective leader are family support, caring, integrity, school engagement, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win and synergize.…

Not everyone has it in them to be a great leader. Most people do, but do not accept the challenge. Some people may also believe that they are leaders but are not truly fit or put the position to lead in a way that would be aspiring to others. According to Mrs. Stephanie Fontenot, leadership is one of the most important aspects in the classroom and on the basketball court. As soon as she was asked the question,…
